C-Notes 2052.05 - Barber Ready

Although the Charlotte Cougars have named Thomas Turner as their Opening Day starter, the majority of the Cougar Front Office foresees pitcher Jamie Barber as the one that will hold that honor for many years to come.

There are even some that think Barber should be the Opening Day starter this season. To be sure, Barber has had a great spring and has an argument to start Opening Day. In 6 games this spring, 20.0 innings, Barber has an ERA of 1.80 with a WHIP of 0.65. With those numbers, its no surprise to also see that he has 23 strikeouts to 2 walks.

And let's take those numbers even further and look at Barber's .157 opponent's average or his .200 BABIP. Or even his 10.3 Ks/9, or 11.5 Ks/BB, or his 230 ERA+ number. Even though the Cougar Front Office expects a slight slide towards the mean, if Barber can keep those numbers up it could be a fun season in Charlotte.

GM Golden had this to say about his pitcher: "If he can keep those numbers up, I'll name him the Opening Day starter for the next 3 seasons, even when Wullenweber joins the team. I mean, if, if Wullenweber were to join the team at some point over those 3 years."
