C-Notes 2048.03 - Its Draft In Here

Post by GoldenOne » Sat Sep 18, 2021 12:33 pm

The 2048 draft is here and the Charlotte Cougars have apparently decided to go pitching-heavy. The Cougars, selecting 26th this year, also had a couple of first round supplemental picks (for losing Pagan and Viramontas), which came at 37th and 41st overall.

At #26 (27th overall), the Cougars selected P Adrián Fox. Fox is an interesting case. Projected to have average stuff, above average movement, and average control, combined with his triple-digit velocity and stopper-level stamina, Fox has great makeup for a closer/stopper role. Fox also has the makeup to be converted into a starting pitcher. However, the big split in facing LHBs and RHBs could be a drawback. Most likely, the Cougars will give Fox a season or two in the minors and hopefully Fox will show himself enough to help the Cougars front office decide what to do with him.

At 37th overall, the Cougars selected 21 year old RP Stanley McClure. McClure is as developed as he can get and will most likely start the season at AAA RIchmond. While not quite having the velocity that the Cougars pitchers are known for, McClure does induce a high groundball rate that the Cougars covet, with an above-average fastball-slider combination. McClure tends to get RHBs out at a slightly better rate but should still be effective against some of the weaker LHBs out there.

At #41 overall, Charlotte took 17 year old SP Robert Venables. While Venables is currently listed as a SP, his 7/7/5 potential, with an above average fastball, decent slider, and average curveball, his future might be better off in the bullpen as a reliever. Being able to hit triple-digits in velocity and high groundball rate, he should be able to find his way to the majors before too long.

To continue the trend, with the 30th pick in the second round (71st overall), the Cougars selected RP Ira Carter. Carter is a 22 year old with above average stuff but is just about average everywhere else. Carter projects to have a decent fastball with a slightly better curveball. Carter has some more work to do to get up to his potential Stuff but when he does he could be a decent addition to the Cougars pen.

Where do the Cougars go from here? With one of the worst minors in the BBA, but still with a pretty young BBA team, the Cougars will continue to look for all the talent they can find.

Not even close.

Besides, Brooks seems to be doing okay there right now.
