C-Notes 2046.09 - Cougars Send 4 to All Star Game; Shine Bright

Post by GoldenOne » Tue Mar 30, 2021 7:50 pm

The Charlotte Cougars sent 4 players to the 2046 All Star game, a new franchise record. The Cougars found themselves in 2nd place in the JL Atlantic Division prior to the All Star break, the toughest division in the BBA this season, and as you would expect from such a team, the JL squad was littered with Cougars.

The sole offensive player to make the JL team was SS Robert 'Tosser' Menzies. Menzies was at the head of the pack, with some distance in between, for WAR among JL shortstops at the break and was an easy decision. For the season, Menzies is batting .314/.419/.432 with 6 HRs, 51 RBIs, and 19 Stolen Bases. Though he has been outstanding at the SS position this season, it was decided he would lead off and play CF at the Summer Classic. Menzies went 0-2 in the game with 1 strikeout and 1 walk.

On the mound, the Cougars saw 3 players get the nod. SPs Francisco Franco and Armando 'Commie Child' Feliciano have been challenging each other all season to get better and both managed to get the recognition they deserve. While not quite the record-setting season he had last season, RP Keijo 'Coach' Reini also made it back to the JL squad again this season.

For the season, Franco is 7-5 in 18 starts and 113.0 innings. His 3.11 ERA and 0.96 WHIP are some great numbers, along with his 76 Ks to only 12 walks. Feliciano, is 8-4 in his 18 starts and 103.1 innings. His 4.35 ERA is a little misleading (his FIP is 3.26) but his 1.08 WHIP is turning heads this season. Throw in his 78 Ks to 9 walks and you can see how the friendly competition with Franco is working out for the Cougars. At the back end of the Cougars' staff is Reini. Reini is 3-3 with only 3 saves but in his 50 games and 60.1 innings he's pitched, he still leads the team with 122 Ks. His 2.09 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, and only 18 walks are making the Cougars glad they already have him signed to a cheap deal for the 2047 season.

Each of the 3 pitchers saw action for the JL in the All Star game, going a combined 3.0 innings, giving up 0 ERs, 1 Hit, no walks, and 4 Ks (and 1 hit batsman.)

We're hoping to see this exciting squad continue to play deep into October this season. Go Cougars!!

Wasn't the bonus I was worried about...it was his contract extension demands I was worried about. :D
