Holy crap, there were some substandard pitchers chosen for this award in the game! Not one pitcher with more than 15 wins!? And the one guy that had 15 wins had a pedestrian year (
Jose Villarreal, Jerusalem - 15-13, 4.51 ERA, 202 IP).
Only two guys with 14 wins!
Henning Veenman of Beirut with a 12-1 record and a 4.33 ERA might be my vote. I'm sorry I have to be forced to choose five guys though!
The Bancroft Rookie of the Year Award voting is absolutely impossible to pick on the other hand. So many guys hitting for a high average in their rookie years!

I never look at wins for a pitcher, I know it's unlikely but you could get a pitcher with a 0-20 record in 20 games with a 1.00 era and another pitcher with a 20-0 record with a 10.00 era.

Take whatever metric you want. The Bancroft pitchers were terrible in 2042.

I think you would have to look at the BANC teams run per games against the BURT teams and the era of BURT pitchers against BANCROFT hitters to work out if they were bad or not, don't forget Athens and Jerusalem scored 1,038 runs each, Bucharest 990 runs. The BANCROFT scored just 2 runs shy of 500 more than the BURT, so I think you'd have to look deeper than one or two stats. Also don't forget BURT pitcher friendly ballparks, BANCROFT hitter friendly ballparks.

you have to look at the league references though. Only 5 qualified pitchers with an ERA below 5.00 (and only one of those below 4.32), with a 4.41 FIP leading the league (only 3 under 5.00). If you are SABR inclined, only 6 pitchers over 3.00 WAR. Pitching is scarce throughout both leagues though.
