UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
And we're underway ! First three picks in the book with the clock not starting until tomorrow.
It's hard to judge the players when so many are very young. I struggled to find a stand out, so I went with potential. If I can get Mackey a good few years in Taipei, a few bumps and maybe PP's dropped on him to sharpen his mind and maybe we have an outstanding prospect

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
I like the Mackey pick. That is who I had my eye on. With him being gone, there were 4 that I felt were in my short list. I decided to have the auto pick decide between the 4 and it went with Arnold Norris. Expect an article later this week on the background story to the auto pick.

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
So one thing I am having problems with is that many of the players do not show up in the UMEBA draft pool inside the game. It is difficult when I don't know salary demands, signability for these players. Does anybody know how to get that information from Statsplus?
BTW, Mackey was a clear #1 on my list. Arnold Norris was also quite high (I think fourth or fifth).

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
I don’t know if there is a way, we seem to have quite a few in the pool that are still shown as playing for their Australian feeder teams. So I guess it’s just hit and hope, unless @recte44 or anyone knows any different?

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
In my mind the pick was between Arnold Norris and Keiran Filby (picked in the next slot by Mumbai). I liked Norris' power and defensive ratings better but Fildy did have the better contact potential. Like you, Mackey caught my eye the most out of the group.

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
Not really fantastically excited about those available so took a personal choice lol. Selected my created ammie Nigel Roberts (my full name is Nigel Robert Laverick ), he's got some potential if he develops. Already sound defensively and you can never get enough leaders

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
Cool, Fat Nige. Your namesake definitely has the defensive skills. Perhaps he will develop better than expected. I feel pretty good about my choices in the second round, particularly Jeremy Owbridge, who I likely will convert to shortstop. Surprised he was still on the board when it got to me.
Interesting that so far, most picks have been batters; just a handful of pitchers have been picked (two of them by me).

And two by me too lol. I need to find some decent arms, not too many dotted around the franchise

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
So it's done! Interesting that with 66 picks in the draft, the first third (22 picks) took 55 hours, while the last 2/3 took only six hours total. Well done, all! That is, by far, the fastest UMEBA draft I have experienced.

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
I made a couple of mistakes though. Don't know why I picked Simon Hammond in the fourth round (he should have gone much later, don't know what I was thinking in my list-making) and I SHOULD have picked Rod Ralston in Round 6 -- don't know how I missed him (so Cairo will be blessed by his presence). Should be interesting to see how guys develop.

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
Yes, I was pleased to get Ralston ( although I only spotted him the previous round.
The first part of a draft is always slower as there’s so much more on offer to choose from, by the time we get past the first few rounds there’s so much of a muchness left that more & more people often swap to auto or on a short draft like ours stick a dozen or so on the draft list and just leave it at that

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
Yeah, same here about Ralston. I noticed him as I was looking at people to expand my list, and give my head a whack I had not seen him earlier. Otherwise, I might have drafted him as early as round 4 --- or certainly by round 5. It's not often that there is a player that is high in all three of adaptability, work ethic, and intelligence. It's a nice bonus that he is low on greed.

Lightning speed for sure. I need some more A level pitching so I am ready for them. I sense a dugout dirt a coming on this soon.

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
Well, that hit & hope because we can't see the players demands really went well. Five out of the seven that wanted fees turned out to be impossible to sign.
There goes 2041's draft class, three players in total might sign. Hardly going to help the franchise development is it?

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
Am I the exception or did everyone get a shedload of “impossible” players in amongst the eight they drafted? I’m really pissed to have five, especially my custom ammy

I signed my first rounder. After that I had:
2nd round - Impossible
3rd round - "Easy' but his demand is $500K
4th round - Extremely Hard
5th round - Extremely Hard
7th round - Impossible
6th and 8th rounders signed without a bonus

Re: UMEBA Draft 2041 chatter
I was lucky that out of my 9 picks (two second-rounders) only my round 8 pick was impossible. My first round 2 pick, though, required $625k to sign. I thought it was humorous that my third round pick was demanding $0k (but was very hard, meaning I had to at least match that), I gave him $2k just because, and, of course, he signed.
