THE WEEKLY SPEARHEAD

Grave New World: Lifeless Impalers Seem Here to Stay

May 5th, 2049
Bucharest, Romania

Aldous Huxley once said "the only truly consistent people are dead." This is attuned to the lycanthropic nature of our namesake, as Bucharest continues to express both consistent mediocrity and a distinct lack of life from the entire team.

Now relegated to a tied 3rd Place, Bucharest sports among the worst run differentials in the UMEBA after suffering two shutouts and a carousel of low-scoring games across the region. The team is, simply, not producing WAR.

After a dismal showing against Cairo that concluded with dual shutouts at the hands of Drees Geestman and Ace Shea Valance, our battered former Division Champions gave two of three to Mumbai and sallied this week to gain two up on Riyadh, including a dramatic walkoff shot in the bottom of the 11th.

Impalers are seeing more plate appearances and striking out more than most of their competitors, which is both befuddling and instructive. Platooning the majority of their positions, it seems that Bucharest's thin platoon is reducing the pinch-hitting within the team. Either that, or Bucharest finds themselves much more committed to a rookie roster than the moves of their rivals.

With a final match against the Red Crescents tonight, Bucharest will hope for the sweep and head south for a two-week trip that begins with Cairo, a long stand at Athens, and finally Mumbai. The two weeks of divisional play will likely sift the tightly-locked Bancroft League as teams head in to the summer stretch.

1B Ricardo De Jesus and LF Shirai Matsumoto are off the Injured List and attending rehabilitation with AAA Luanda.

We have a real problem with giving up two games at the end of a sim, it’s ruined a few good weeks. :(
