Abraham Ganz column, Apr. 21, 2046: "Impale: U, ME, Baseball!"
Well, Bucharest's season may have gotten off to a rocky start (9-10 after 19 games), but we know this team is just too good not to make the playoffs. True fans, never fear, the season has almost 90% remaining.
Speaking of which, Bucharest is looking at locking in the talent they have now for several more years. As a result, we have some extension information to report:
21-yo 2B/SS Jeremy Owbridge just signed a three year extension at $2.1 million per year. He is the earliest draft pick (2nd round in 2041) that the current GM made to have been a successful player on the major league team. We are happy to see him retained for three more years.
They have made sure to bolster the starting pitching by signing Freddy Delgado to a team friendly $1M extension per year for two years. Freddy was outstanding last year with a 2.88 ERA in 13 starts, and, even at 38 years old, is well worth the investment.
Finally, they have signed their second-best reliever Tony Medine to a three-year, $1.2 million/year extension.
Both of the last two extensions have the last season as a team option, to minimize any risk to the team in case the players go south. We are very happy to see the Impalers solidifying their strong position in the league for the next several years.
In other news, despite this paper's predictions of a letdown year for CF Rafael Mullet , what does he do but go win player of the week this past week. When you watch this guy at batting practice, he just does not seem to be a quality hitter, by any shape or form. Yet all he does every week is go out and prove otherwise. His rookie season, in 2044, he had a 110 OPS+, last year raised it to a 116 OPS+, and so far this season, has raised it again to 129 OPS+. If he keeps this up, his expected departure at the end of the season (by this paper) may turn out to be one of our worst predictions ever.
2046:05 Bucharest stays relevant past this season.

That's a bargain extension on Owbridge. Did you buy out his arb years?
