Dragon Questions - 2037, Part 3

Post by stormfall » Thu Feb 14, 2019 9:29 pm

Running a baseball team is a difficult business. It's even more difficult if you don't communicate with your fans. Here on Dragon Questions, I'll be taking on your most pressing questions about the Bucharest Balauri, so you can stay informed about your favorite team. This week, I'll be answering your questions about early playoff results, our eventual plunge into the free-agent market, and a band named in our honor.

What are you doing to save our pitching staff now that our #1 starter and our closer may be out for the rest of the playoffs?
Ivan L.

Losing a quality pitcher like Miguel Acosta with a dead arm certainly threw off our playoff plans, but we can still get Ángel Castro, who's been our most effective pitcher down the stretch, two or even three starts if necessary, so it's not like our pitching rotation has completely gone down the tubes yet. Losing closer Juan Valenzuela right at the end of the season is a horrible way to go into the playoffs, but we've just moved breakout Spaniard Jesús Meléndez to the back end of the bullpen, and his performance late this season suggests he can handle a decent workload in the playoffs. Maybe if we all just keep repeating this first section to ourselves, we'll all feel better... until we remember that the Balauri seem to have forgotten how to hit. We've only put up 14 hits through the first two games of the League Championship Series, while Beirut has already battered our depleted pitching staff for 14 runs. In the first two playoff games in Romania, the Green Knights walloped us 10-2 and then shut us out for eight innings en route to a 4-1 win. Speed demon Barry Buckner, RBI leader Laurent Fernandez, and UMEBA batting champ and MVP frontrunner Mike Román are a combined 0-24, and unless they - and another few hitters who aren't currently worth mentioning - can figure out what they're doing at the plate, there's no way the Balauri can overcome their pitching losses and win the seven-game CS after dropping the first two games at home, something that's never been done in UMEBA history. Hopefully that's another record we'll be forced to break.

What do you think of the practice of “trawling for prospects”?
Marius V.

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, “trawling for prospects” is a name we think we’ve just invented to describe what teams like the Istanbul Bosphorus and Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers have been doing by offering hundreds of free agents minor-league contracts and signing 150 or more within a week. In my opinion, this has the potential to compromise the integrity of the game, but on the other hand, it's a great opportunity for yet another promotional venture. Therefore, I'm proud to announce that not only will the Balauri also be "trawling for prospects" this offseason, but their fight for the few open roster spots in Bucharest will be turned into a reality TV show called All For One, which will be streaming this spring on Romanian network NFSXQLT (Random Initials Entertainment). If you're interested in the process, we've been seriously considering letting fans host this new show, so audition tapes are welcome. Based on availability, we might also need to look to our fan base to provide an executive producer for All For One, too...

Is it true that the Balauri now have a tribute band?
Mioara N.

Yes, it is. In the wake of last week’s flamethrower catastrophe, a Romanian alt-folk-punk band has apparently renamed itself Vladdy the Golden Dragon. The group, which was previously known by the moniker Potato Slave, has been booked to perform after Game Six (if we get that far) of the Bancroft League playoffs. If you stick around after the game, be sure to listen for hallmark songs like “Braise the Sky”, “Spawn of Santa”, and their seventeen-minute magnum opus, “SCREEEEEEEEEECH.” If you instead flee the stadium immediately after the final out, you can still enjoy the full Vladdy musical experience with lead singer Turbulent G. Anthrax III’s unique take on our National Anthem. We hope to see you all at the ballpark for Bucharest’s first taste of playoff baseball!

Before we finish up this week, we just want to share a specially prepared statement from Mike Román after losing the Copa de Jefe-Jugador to Juan Solís in distinctly unspectacular fashion. From the bottom of his heart, Román has been forced to admit to Balauri fans everywhere that he is unworthy to manage in the presence of such a baseball god as Juan Solís. Off the record, Román also swears that he's waiting for the end of the 2038 season for his ultimate revenge. If you feel like getting involved, or if you want to get involved with any other aspect of the Bucharest organization, go ahead and give us your thoughts whenever you want! What's the worst that could happen? Find out next week, with another look inside the front office of the Bucharest Balauri!
