Long in the Tooth?

Post by MartinMartell » Tue Apr 02, 2024 3:56 pm

As the new skipper Martin Martell settled in for his first press conference he prepared for the question he knew was coming. At the minimum he seemed prepared for the question. Was he brought in to clear out the veterans to make room for a younger class of players. Many hammer fans feel that the team has gotten old. And they fear what the future may hold for the team. In a few short years the team could see a majority of its top players retiring. Or their age may start showing in their production on the field as more than one journalist queried. After all Martell in the past has been known for making big trades. Moving a teams talent to make room for young players and draft picks. Martell quickly responded to the question. "We may have some players that you could say are nearing the end of their careers. But we have a good ballclub here. These guys can win some games. So I will take full stock of the team, see where we can get better. And then we will do our best to do just that! But right now we got some games to win before this season is up. And we are not out of it yet. So why don't we worry about the now. We will worry about the later after the season is over "
Many Hammer fans expect there to be some changes. As Martell is know for going after younger talent and not being to tied down to player loyalty. That is until you become one of 'his guys'. The coach is known for being very loyal to his players that have a special place with him. Once a player proves their willingness to put it all out on the field they can gain a place with the coach. At least that is the rumor that has whirled around Martell ever since he coached his first game. But the coach is not known for showing much loyalty to players when he first arrives. "You have to prove yourself to him from what I have heard. Doesn't matter what you have done. Matters what you do now." remarked Rajko Lovre https://statsplus.net/brewster/reports/ ... 65051.html . One of the teams younger players.
One thing is for certain. Martell will try to make a big trade. He has at every team he has ever coached. The only question that remains is who will he try to trade and who will he replace them with. Is it time for a more youthful team in Jerusalem. There are plenty of years left in the teams veterans and many fans are worried that their favorite player will be the one on the trade block. The season is almost over. And we will get a better idea of any plans that Martell has soon enough.
