Hammer Time 2051.4 – Retooling Part 2

Post by WestCoastStros » Wed May 25, 2022 12:40 am

Concluding our two-part series reviewing the recent moves made by Jerusalem as it attempts to reach a third straight GBC championship series, we assess the internal candidates for significant roles who already have been named to the Spring Training squad.

6’6 specimen and 2048 #10 draft pick Adel Bin Husam Al Din had a decent showing in AAA as he posted a 141 OPS+ at the plate but struggled on the mound with a 4.58 ERA after notching an impressive 2.60 ERA/1.03 WHIP in AA in 2049. A strong candidate to take over the #5 starter role, the 22yo could be poised for a massive breakout to take the GBC by storm.

Also on the mound, 2049 #4 draft pick SP Milojica Suljic may be prepared to start his journey toward becoming a league ace. The #9-rated, 21yo prospect in the GBC faced a big jump from college and A-ball to AAA in 2050, but held his own with a 90 ERA+ despite some continued bad luck on balls in play. With his walks and home runs also up, there could be cause for worry, but reports out of Johannesburg noted that he appears primed to attack batters more aggressively again after some focused winter training.

Utility infielder Juan Castillo is a more familiar name to many, having tried to establish himself in the GBC over the previous three seasons but with minimal success. A defensive standout rated plus-plus anywhere in the infield, he has also flashed true five-tool potential and finally may have experienced his long-awaited breakout in a full season at AAA in 2050, when he posted a 129 OPS+ and racked up 2.6 WAR.

Finally, 2050 midseason minor league signing Bronx Cortez has stuck through the winter with the club and already being the frontrunner for the left field job, reportedly could even see some time in centerfield against righties to fit an extra masher into the lineup. A long-time scouts’ darling, he will hope to finally showcase his elite power after seven disappointing seasons in the BBA with the Hawai’I Tropics.

Very good to see some serious thought going into Jerusalem. Good luck.
