Hammer Time 2050.2

Post by DaveB » Sun Apr 10, 2022 3:17 pm

It's been awhile as I've been busy but here we go.

More than a Hammer and Nail - Draft Review:

With our first round selection we chose catcher Izz al Din bin Najeeb . His friends refer to him as Izzy, but we're not really sure about that because he's not sure if we're friends yet. Izzy is a guy who we feel can potentially be our catcher of the future. We love his bat. We are concerned about his defense and we've started to work with him to hopefully improve upon that as he develops.

Our second round selection was Dileep Mirchandani. Dileep made me wonder why we couldn't target guys with names that are easier to spell in the draft. None the less, we love his arm. He was selected as a starting pitcher, but we've converted him to the relief role after signing as we feel that's where his future lies. He has a fastball that reaches 100 and we feel like he could be a late inning reliever if he fully develops in the future.

Season Developments:

We're in a battle with who else, Manama. Those guys are like the bubble gum on a new pair of loafers. We can't shake these guys.

The season so far has been a fun one. Our offense has been led by Dane Licht. We've had to ask Licht to move into the right field role as Garry Mihalsky was struggling a bit out there. Speaking of Mihalsky he's been also plagued by LHP this year. He's got an .885 OPS vs RHP, but a .315 OPS vs LHP. This has seen him lose playing time vs LHP to Rule V Draftee Bill Bowers. Bowers has an incredible .474 OBP in 39 plate appearances versus south paws so far this year.

The player I've been most impressed by this year just landed on the IL Alejandro Córdova. Cordova thus far has a 3.5 WAR has been a 9.2 ZR in the field. He's been worth every cent of the 4.7 million we're paying him.

The player who has disappointed the most thus far has been Weaver Ripley . Some opposing scouts have said that his bat has slowed down a bit vs RHP which has caused some of the downfall. We're hopeful that his woefully low .225 babip is the cause of his struggles and that we'll see Markus Math swing the other way during the second half of the season.
