THE Hammer 2049.2: Missed it by THIS Much

THE Hammer
1 Jan 2049
Jerusalem, Israel

We’ve discussed CL Jan Chemlykwinning the UMEBA Reliever of the Year award for 2048. But other Hammers littered the also-ran plains. Right behind Chemlyk was setup man P Adrian Kraft with a +1.5 WAR, 7-0, 3 SV, 2.24 ERA, 1.30 WHIP stat line.

Anyone remotely aware of the Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers knows the name OF Dane Licht will be showing up on awards lists for years, but he was edged by 8 points in Position Player of the Year in 2048 by Baghdad OF Zephyr Orphanides. And it should have been expected to be close. Licht posted a stat line of .422 wOBA, .350/.428/.590, 31 HR, 122 RBI, with a WAR of +6.4. Orphanides posted .409 wOBA, .331/.397/.620, 32 HR, 81 RBI, 18 SB, and +6.8 WAR.

But other Hammers were in the running for postseason awards. SP Edwin Harney ranked 4th in the BURT Pitcher of the Year award after his 2048 campaign of 31 GS, +3.9 WAR, 11-13, 4.44 ERA, 131 Ks, 1.16 WHIP. SP Leon Ludeman also received 1 vote (and it wasn't GM Ben Teague) with a line of 30 GS, +2.7 WAR, 13-10, 4.83 ERA, 135 Ks, and a 1.47 WHIP.

The results of voting for Rookie of the Year included one vote for P Cyrille Santorio and his +0.6 WAR, 59 G, 7-5, 3.97 ERA, 65 Ks, and a 1.46 WHIP (ok, that was the GM).

Jerusalem also boasts an impressive 3 Gold Glove winners: 2B Ab Elders (95 G, .984 PCT, +8.6 ZR, 1.068 EFF) 3B Felipe Soto (96 G, .937 PCT, +1.6 ZR, 1.031 EFF) and CF Tyler Pavey (97 G, .983 PCT, +7.1 ZR, 1.039 EFF).

That seems a very good foundation for a great season and we'll see how that plays out in 2049.
Ben Teague, GM Boise Spuds
2682-3175, .457 PCT (5,857 games, 36 seasons)
