THE Hammer

Jerusalem, Israel
**********************************

Beirut Cedars 58-32 .644 - L10: 7-3
Manama Pearls 46-47 .495 13.5 GB L10: 6-4
Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers 43-49 .467 GB: 16 L10: 8-2
Baghdad Kings 41-48 .461 GB: 16.5 L10: 2-8
Riyadh Red Crescents 32 59 .352 GB: 26.5 L10 2-8

HAMMERS OF THE SIM - SIM #15

The Hammers are actually on a run! Jerusalem is on a 7-game win streak after eeking past Manama 9-8 in 10 innings tonight. They are 8-2 in the last 10 games. More importantly is who they have beaten as the division leader, Beirut, moves farther away from the pack, the hunt is on for the Wild Card and that means another scrum like last season: between Manama, the Hammers, and the Baghdad Kings. After taking 2 games in a 3-game series vs Riyadh, the Hammers traveled to Baghdad and swept the Kings in 3 games to go into the All-Star break on a high note. Now that the regular season has resumed, Jerusalem has taken the first 3 games of a 4-game series versus the Pearls. That leaves the Hammers 2.5 games behind Manama for the Wild Card while Baghdad lurks at 3 behind.

Pitcher
Image
SP Manuel Andrés
26 G 5 GS 1 SV 2-2 3.98 ERA 1.15 WHIP +0.6

Andrés has moved back and forth from the rotation to the bullpen over the course of the season. GM Ben Teague really wants him to grab a spot in the rotation but he hasn't been solid there. He was in his past outing, however. Pitching on the road in Baghdad on July 7th, Andrés turned in 7 innings of one-run ball only allowing 3 hits and dealing 7 K's.

Batter

RF José Figueroa
80 G .305/.345/.477 9 HR 41 RBI +1.4

Figueroa is probably the main guy who needs to kick it up a notch if the Hammers are going to stay in the WC conversation after Backhouse's injury. He certainly did that this Sim as he hit 3 HRs in 4 games with 6 runs and 5 RBI.
