Having held the job for only two months at the end of 2047 it can take a bit longer to assess the priorities of a GM. No so with GM Ben Teague who has harped again and again in interviews on the Hammers' defense. With the offense being at the top of the league all season and a pitching staff just above average Teague said, "Our team was sending out players with sieves instead of gloves."

Anyone who thought he was venting had their eyes open with Teague's first trade of 2048. Jerusalem sent pitchers P Pancho Guzman and veteran C Bailey Nunn to Tripoli.

In return, the Hammers received SS O-min Paek and young pitcher Jose Guzman (no relation as far as we can discern).

Nunn is clearly on his way to being an excellent #1 catcher and Guzman adds Tripoli veteran depth to their rotation. Meanwhile, O-min Paek looks as if his license to wield a bat should be revoked and the stats bear that out. What Paek lacks in offense, he more than makes up for in defense. In fact, he may be the best SS in the league right now. His last two seasons with Tripoli, Paek recorded ZRs of +3.7 and +1.0 with EFF of 1.007 in both years. He simply looks fluid and effortless up the middle regardless of pitcher and 2B.

Teague is excited to see what this team can do with a lockdown defense up the middle and, frankly, so are we.
