There's an old saying: "Dance with the one who brung ya..." Typically, the intent is that the "one brung ya" ain't the highlight of the party. That was in full display in the first round of the BURT playoffs as the Hammers made a quick exit being eliminated by the Beirut Cedars tonight 4 games to 2. Jerusalem brought a roster that ranked #1 in every offensive stat in the BURT outside of HR and 2B (#2, respectively) and walks (#3).
Knowing all that, it was a good sign that pitching & defense shutout Beirut as the Hammers kicked off the series with a 6-0 victory in Beirut. But the rest of the series followed the script with Jerusalem's only other victory being 7-6 win at home. The average of scores in the games came to 6.8 to 5.2. A really good series offensively. But the Hammers hitting fielding and pitching ultimately doomed them. Upgrading those areas will be the biggest concern for GM Ben Teague this offseason.
