In mid-September 3 BURT league teams were at least 12.5 games out of first and could have been buying tickets to Aruba to watch the playoffs on TV. But those 3 - Jerusalem, Baghdad, Manama - looked around and realized that there was one spot open and the three were within one game of each other. The last half-month of 2047 shaped up to be special...and it didn't disappoint. Really, it was a mess of medocrity, but someone had to reach the opportunity.

So the last 3 weeks saw Manama go 7-6, Baghdad 6-7, and Jerusalem 7-6. That pulled Baghdad back one game to even with Jerusalem and scheduled for tie-breaker to stand as the last WC game. It came down to a clash of aces as Jerusalem sent their finest pitcher to the mound in Gary Goodchild and the KIngs looked to Hector Granados. But things took a bad turn for Baghdad and their playoff hopes went up in smoke when reliever Julio Cuevas surrendered 3 runs in 1/3rd of an inning.

Thus, GM Ben Teague's preparations went from sun & sand to prepping for a series against the division champs Beirut.
