Hammer Time 2046.1- A Manager Writes His Wife

Post by chicoruiz » Fri Feb 12, 2021 8:36 pm

Just a quick note to let you know how things are going so far on my new job in Jerusalem. It’s nice to be back home after all those years in Charm City, but I certainly have some work to do here.

I’m not sure how to take the general manager, Chico Ruiz. At first glance, he seems to be nothing more than an amiable doofus… like he may have spray-cleaned his oven too many times without cracking a window. But he has, in fact, made a few pretty good moves in his two seasons here: picking up Torres and Nakanishi off the scrap heap, for example. And we’ve signed a couple of pretty nice free agents, with hopefully more to come. So my opinion of him may change.

One reason he may be a little discombobulated these days: he obviously has a thing for his administrative assistant, a girl named Miriam. It’s apparent to everyone on the staff, but he’s in denial. And for her part, she’s not too enthusiastic about dating her boss, especially one like Chico, who, believe me, isn't exactly a candidate for The Bachelor. Right now she seems more interested in the problems of maintaining a grass field in the Jerusalem climate. It will be a fun little soap opera to watch play out over the season.

I think I see a few things that can help this club right away. Adam Backhouse has been the DH; I plan to move him to first, where his glove, while bad, is not quite as toxic as that of Torres. And the signing of Jose Figueroa will allow me to move Blake Bell to a super-sub role, where I think he’s best suited.

Time will tell. We have offers out to several badly needed pitchers. If we get them, we might be okay; if not, I may be spending a lot of time down at the Wailing Wall, bemoaning my fate as has been done for centuries.

Love to you and the kids. Hope little Jimmy is over the paste-eating thing,

Your Husband

Man, Figueroa should be incredible for you. He's been a solid hitter for years. I tried to resign him all last season, but he wanted to play the market. Good luck.

Well done, love the idea of a manager writing to his wife. Nice snag in Torres.
