2041.5:Reconsidering Everything

The Hebrew Hammers are still looking very iffy as the team is sitting at 33-40, 11 games back of the division lead. They are 4 games back however in the wild card. The pressure is on rookie GM Ben Heuring, as he tried something radical in order to shake up the bullpen. Pitching has been a hot mess all year for the Hammers, with an ERA that resembles playing in Denver. What he is attempting to do as part of "Analytical Chaos" is to go with the closer by committee approach. This approach means that the team can play matchups, meaning that it forces the opposing teams into not knowing what the bullpen script is going to be each game. Closer Brian Soper has regressed this year, and management wanted to put some pressure on. So, they added two more pitchers that were closers, giving the dugout more options.

The first choice was [urlhttps://statspl.us/brewster/player/32986?page=dash]Dean Oulton[/url]. Oulton had been a long man, but has a plus change and sinker. The thought is that Oulton could bring something different as a finesse closer, and we shall see how he takes to an increased role. He was a former first round pick by the Tropics and impressed in AAA ball for the Hammers, so it makes sense to try and give him a shot at closing.

The third member of the committee is Robbie Cooke. Cooke can hit 100 mph, and is more of the power pitcher in the mix. There is no doubt about his stuff, but the team wants to make sure that his plus fastball and good change can work in the major leagues. In fact, management has put the entire staff on notice. If things don't pick up soon, the team will be looking at replacements, either in the minors or via acquisitions.

The other thing the team is looking for is a SS. Ownership stated that they wanted to acquire an upgrade this year, to help further the playoff push. The team put in a bid for a BBA free agent, and are awaiting the terms to be signed, and hopefully this player is going to make a difference offensively. The Hammers are going to need to get back into the race, and maybe the next few weeks can continue the success that the team has known since the start of the league 5 years ago.
