2039.3 More turnover

Post by bschr682 » Tue Jun 18, 2019 5:19 pm

The Hebrew Hammers seem to be continuing their dismantling of the title winning 2038 squad as another trade was consummated that sends big time slugger Baba Lue, OF Nadif Zidane, SP Bernard Melman and 400k in cash to bottom cellar dweller Istanbul for uber prospect Blake Bell.

The deal carries plenty of risk both ways. Bell is flat out one of the best prospects if not the best prospect in the entire UMEBA but he is very, very raw. Going the other way Lue is coming off a 50 homer season but is 34, Zidane didn't get hardly any time due to a crowded Hammers outfield to prove himself but sure seems to have a good bat, and Melman spent the season in AAA so its hard to say what his contribution will be. Its highly likely Istanbul's big league team got a lot better real fast, but at what cost?

Hammers fans were visibly distraught especially when confronted with the fact that should Bell be as good as advertised, he would likely be a prime target for a BBA team to swipe in a few years. Only time will tell how this trade will shake out for both teams.

Bell and other UMEBA prospects are going to have a hard time developing in a league filled with BBA 4-A players. He had the worst season imaginable last year. -3.5 WAR in 56 games? That is impressively bad.

It would help if people get their act together on our new A ball league and strive to make it more age appropriate. It may take some time to get it going, there's plenty of 18-22 year olds out there but a lot will take a lot of time to develop. Once the league is mainly U22 the players will have a better chance of developing

The UMEBA is still in the wild west stage of settling out. Very exciting times.
