2039.2 The winds of change strike

Post by bschr682 » Tue Jun 18, 2019 3:19 pm

Coming off a fantastic season that netted Jerusalem a title, surely the band would be brought back together for another go right? Well it seems that assumption would be wrong as a massive 5 for 1 trade was cemented and 2039 will see a few new boys in blue battle for a repeat. Stud SP Ramon Suarez, 1B/DH Jesus Alvarado, CF Sheldon Cooper, LF Aymeric Barajas, and 3B Rick Terry will be heading for Baghdad while the lone returnee will be CF Jin-guo Long.

So why the trade? Surely that was a massive overpay? Well yes and no. On the one hand, every single one of the 5 guys going to Baghdad will surely be a starter and together provide far more value than Long can by himself. But 4 of the 5 guys are over 30. But then again the vast majority of good players in UMEBA are over 30 for a reason as the league thrives on aging vets and AAAA cast offs. But Long is only 25 and really good defensively! But Barajas is only 28 and is a scary good switch hitter. But Long is way cheaper than Barajas. Etc, etc, etc.

In this writers humble opinion, both teams walk away from this a winner. Jerusalem needs to improve its defense and stay younger, especially considering the treasure trove of free agents that have been signed so far this winter. Baghdad needs to push themselves into the playoff fight sooner rather than later and bettering themselves at 5 positions in a single trade without giving up any top prospects seems like a win-win.
