Hammer Time 2051.7 - Drafting the Future

Jerusalem Draft Review

.9 LF Rajko Lovre – Though pre-draft reports tied the Hebrew Hammers more heavily to the player who went next to Sydney, Milojica Kraljevic, Jerusalem opted for the slightly cheaper, higher-upside if further away Lovre. At just 17yo, Lovre still is not far from from potentially contributing as one of the most all-around bats in the draft, with average defense across the outfield. A noted hard worker, Lovre will be eyeing a chance come 2053.

.9 1B Callum Montgomerie – Though never likely to be the Hammer’s top pick, Montgomerie’s name was frequently tossed about as a strong target and pundits would appear to have been correct. The contact-power profile this 17yo boasts was second to none in the draft and nabbing him late in the 2nd is a steal, no way around it even if he is limited to DH.

.9 SP Buddhapalita Kankipati – Despite being light years away from contributing, the 16yo Indian native moves to the Chinese League where he will attempt to build more stamina for his future four-plus pitch arsenal to make the most effect. Worst case, the crafty sidearmer is a nightmare swingman.

.8 CF Masinisan Sumait – A premier defender in the outfield, the Cameroonian 16yo also boasts respectable bat-to-ball skills and the speed to make use of his strictly gap power.

.8 SS Khoi Dai – Another defense-first pick with decent bat-to-ball skills, Dai is likely a better fit at 2B where he could be one of the best defenders in the GBC as soon as next year, with his bat not expected to develop much further.

.8 – En-Lai Chio – Almost an obligatory backstop pick, Chio is an older prospect at 19yo but has developed a good reputation behind the plate with a bat that could keep him in the conversation for a backup role.

.8 LF Gordon Yabsley – Somewhat surprisingly still available so late, ‘Gab’ Yabsley is a poor man’s five-tool outfielder most noted for his ability to bring a clubhouse together in the face of adversity.

.8 SP Yunis Kakakhel – A deviation from the character-driven first seven picks by Jerusalem, the notoriously high-maintenance Kakakhel has flashed excellent back-end rotation skills but the jury is very much out on his prospects.

.8 CL Connor Broadberry – Had he been able to develop a third pitch prior to going pro, the Englishman likely would have gone in the top of the 1st round with stamina not just for days, but weeks and the makeup scouts drool over. If lightning strikes, he could yet achieve his dream of reaching the BBA one day.

.8 RF Hsham Wazir – How this rail of a 6’4” 185-lbs 16yo literal child manages to produce borderline plus-plus pop is beyond explanation, though backed by his cannon of an arm. Coming off a season-ending injury as a HS junior, he finagled his way into the draft to get a head start on his career rather than play for a realistic shot to go in the top two rounds of 2052.

.8 SP Baz Seif Al Din – Gophers did not take kindly to this selection; his 6’8” frame generates terrific downward plane on the ball and if his curve/slider combo catches his fastball, it might not matter much where he locates any of it.

.8 LF Saled Dukuzumuremyi – The 6’6” Moroccan boasted some of the best raw power in the class, but offers little else beyond potential average contact and plate discipline.

.8 RF Hatim Omar – The definition of ‘Even Steven;’ Omar’s best trait is his ability to avoid making mistakes and he often seems content with exactly that.

.8 1B Balltesar Themes – With a unique power profile, Themes faces an uphill battle as his elite gap power is rendered useless by his trudgery.

.8 – 2B Shakir Rafi – Announced as a 1B, Rafi could reach the fringe of the GBC if he can squeeze just a bit more juice out of any aspect in his hitting profile. He certainly shows no humility in planning to start for Jerusalem as soon as this July anyway.

Sounds like some well-thought out picks. Looking forward to my first GBC/BBA draft!
