Shark Tales #2058.4 - Two weeks later...

Post by forcarrying » Wed Feb 14, 2024 9:07 am

Everything was going wrong for the Sharks, a poor spring training led many to wonder if this team was even worth getting excited about in a star-studded GBC. A 1-6 opening week combined with a broken laptop for GM Williamson was somewhat of a cruel introduction and in a lot of eyes proved those doubters correct.

There was hope though, opening day saw a 9th inning walk-off solo homerun from 3rd baseman Mohammed bin Mus'ad to give the Sharks and their fans something to go to bed thinking about during their following 6 game losing streak that saw the team have a -21 run differential. So calling it 'losing' was a compliment if anything.

GM Williamson knew something had to change as he angrily stuck an HDMI cord into his laptop to see where it all went wrong. Two poor starts from Luis Alonso and one from Garth Gunn was the spark to a change in pitching strategy as everyone was sick of watching the ball sale into the stands. Ultimately, this resulted in both moving to the bullpen due to their career-long susceptibility to the long ball, despite their electric stuff. In came Jordan Knowles, a new signing since the beginning of the season who, despite missing most of 2057, continued where he left off from his 33 start, 3.35 ERA 2056 season in London. He pitched 6 innings of 2 run ball against a star-studded Athens batting lineup. He was followed the next day by 8 innings of 3-run ball from Bryan Hall who was in the mix for a starting job but ultimately locked in for the foreseeable future after the first week and his exceptional start.

On the batting side of things, new signings Topan Adjeng and Sosa Seki both have 2 HR and 10 RBIs. Plus regular contributors Milojica 'Bugaloo' Kraljevic and Mohammed bin Mus'ad contributing as they are expected to do, with Kraljevic getting especially hot as of recently.

Coming up for the Sharks is their first series against Cairo (7-5) and London (9-5) which is concerning due to the fact the only other above 500 team (Tokyo) walked all over the Sharks in all three games. Still, many are hopeful the last week's fortunes are going to continue. We look forward to that, but until then, this has been Shark Tales, thank you for reading.
