Shark Tales #2058.1 - A new beginning

Post by forcarrying » Mon Jan 22, 2024 4:42 am

The season is over for the Sharks and a new horizon is upon us. A first-time GM and a young starter on a now big contract are the topics on everyone's mind. So let's talk about them.

New GM Alex Williamson is entering his first season as a GM, having no prior experience in other leagues, there are a lot of question marks around the young man. He's known to be very stats-driven and will form his teams that way. This leads some fans to worry that they may lose that personal touch with players and the club, but in a league known to be losing its best players to the BBA constantly when they hit free agency, it's easy to see how this approach could be successful.

He inherits a good Sharks side, top batters Milojica 'Bugaloo' Kraljevic and Mohammed bin Mus'ad will be back through arbitration next year having combined for 7.2 WAR last year. As well as 2nd baseman Harry S. 'Drill King' Stamper III who is back on a $6 million deal with the same contract on the table for 2059 if Stamper wants it.

The pitching side of things seems to be a bit more of a question, 4 of the 5 pitchers in the starting rotation last year have become free agents. The one who didn't, Niegloslaw Woywitka, is now on a big $29 million deal over two years. The downside? He's fresh off a down year, posting the worst ERA, WHIP, and FIP of his 4-year career at the Sharks so far.

There will be a lot of pressure on Woywitka and Williamson to remake this rotation into something better, but with a projected $7 million in budget remaining it will be a challenge. For now, we have to wait for Williamson to take over the team later this week.

Until then and the moves that follow, this has been Shark Tales, thank you for reading

Nice job! Just make sure you number the Team News with the season. This one would be Shark Tales 2058.1 or a combination of those. It makes it easier for @CTBrewCrew to count up your points.

Keep 'em coming!
