A BUNGLE IN THE JUNGLE by Vihaan Dara Metro Stars beat writer
Several reporters and staff were witness to a flare up of tempers after the latest loss for the Ho Chi Minh Explorers, the Metro Stars single A affiliate. The team has an abysmal 12-39 record despite having several talented players. The incident appeared to start when SS Socrates Kazantziakis confronted catcher Mashashi Ikeda about showing up to the park “green around the gills” an apparent reference to a drinking binge the night before. Ikeda was quoted as responding “What's it to you golden boy? Maybe if you had some fun once in awhile you might hit over .200. How are you supposed to be one of our top prospects when you can't even hit your weight?” At that point several team mates had to keep the two players separated but that was only the start of it. First baseman Connor Webber chimed in “Man I am sick of Vietnam and sick of losing every damn night.” To which outfielder Vern Birkbeck fired back “Can it Dopey! (a reference to Webber's nickname)You have no room to talk! You couldn't knock the seeds out of a pickle with your weak bat and you field like your glove should be on your foot.” Pitcher Zivon Gabtulhabirov added “Half of the guys on this team are counting down the minutes until their first beer instead of focusing on the game. I'm going to pitch my way out of this hell hole and not look back.” Center fielder Roberto Castro added “this is the most lazy dead ass team I ever saw.” There then came a chorus of shouting and curses when Adao Yoshida, one of the team leaders got up on a chair and tried to appeal for calm as a staff member kicked the media out of the club house and slammed the door shut. Behind the closed door the muffled voice of Yoshida could be heard appealing to the team to stop finger pointing and come together to fix this damn thing.” Manager Burt Warren was not present during the dust up.

The response to the incident came a few hours later as detailed in a press release from the Metro Stars organization. It read:

"The Metro Stars organization is aware of an incident in the club house earlier today in which several members of the Ho Chi Minh Explorers acted in an unprofessional manner. We apologize to any media member who witnessed the incident and had their access to the team limited. We will be taking steps to remedy the situation. To quote Ho Chi Minh himself 'Remember, the storm is a good opportunity for the pine and the cypress to show their strength and their stability.' and we hope these words will be taken to heart by the staff and team.”

The fallout came an hour after that in two separate press releases stating that catcher Mashashi Ikeda is no longer part of the Metro Stars organization and that manager Burt Warren has been reassigned to manage the Sao Paulo Bandeirates the Stars AA affiliate and Arif Bin Dharr will come to Ho Chi Minh from Sao Paulo to manage the Explorers. An acquaintance familiar with Bin Dharr told me “Arif won't tolerate any of that stuff there. He's a no nonsense guy.”

The first thing the new manager will probably do is ban Vihaan Dara from the locker room. That’s WAY too much access...

yeah probably should get fired but he's not a bad manager, a little too laid back for that situation though. I'll bring in a hard ass though that prob won't do too much.
