Metro Stars New Signings (2039 - #2)

Post by ThePreyingManta » Wed Jul 03, 2019 10:03 pm

New general manager Will Gibson's first week with the Mumbai Metro Stars was a busy one, as the team signed 6 free agents to major league contracts and two additional players to minor league contracts. The following players joined the Metro Stars' organization over the past week:

SP Tomas Guevara (1 year / $260,000)
The 26-year-old Guatemalan is a very hard thrower who has struggled to throw strikes through nine seasons with four different BBA organizations. This will be his first go in the UMEBA. The Metro Stars plan to use him as a swingman, serving as both a long reliever and a potential back of the bullpen arm.

SP Hsin-Pei Guo (1 year / $310,000)
Guo decided to take his career to the UMEBA after injuries have hampered him in the BBA over the past few seasons. Guo was very effective in 10 AA starts last season, and the Stars hope that he can provide some solid innings in the rotation. Unfortunately, he can be expected to miss time, as he has missed at least a month in each of the past five seasons.

1B Roberto Perez (2 years / $1,700,000)
Coming off of two solid seasons with Jerusalem while not receiving much playing time, Perez should become one of the top threats in Metro Stars’ lineup. Extrapolated out to 162 games, Perez has averaged 39 HR over the last two seasons. Perez is set up to become the Stars’ starting 1B while possibly splitting time with Toshio Taguchi against lefties.

LF Masaharu Suzuki (3 years / $1,500,000)
Signed to a three-year deal, Suzuki could have the biggest impact of any of the Stars’ recent signings. After toiling away with the Edmonton Jackrabbits’ AAA team for the past three years, Suzuki decided to make the move to the UMEBA where he should be an excellent hitter. Suzuki is not a great defender and will likely split time between LF and DH in tandem with Jose Olivarez for the time being.

CF Dave Molina (1 year / $700,000)
Molina is another UMEBA veteran, having led the league in home runs during the inaugural 2037 season. Owner of a ridiculously low career BABIP, Molina won’t be expected to hit for much average, but he can be expected to hit a lot of home runs, steal a lot of bases, and play solid CF. The Stars will be experimenting a bit with Molina, and it is possible that his stay as the starting CF is short lived.

RF Daniel McDaniel (2 years / $1,200,000)
With one of the best names in professional baseball, Daniel McDaniel will be making his UMEBA debut after a disappointing run in AAA. McDaniel is a solid all-around player with plus power and speed. He also plays a solid, yet unspectacular, corner OF. McDaniel will join the middle of the Metro Stars’ lineup and will mostly play LF.

1B Jorge Chavez (MiLC)
Chavez has never played above AA and will be joining the Mumbai organization on a minor league deal. The 24-year-old may have some room to grow, but for now is seen as an average hitter with decent pop. As things currently stand, he will likely only see the top level of the UMEBA as an injury replacement.

2B Raul Heredia (MiLC)
Heredia is a superstar defensive player and little else. He has thus far produced abysmal offensive numbers in the BBA minor leagues. If his offense ever improves to playable levels, he has the skill to win a Gold Glove at 2B, 3B, or SS.
