Baseball Mumbai: UMEBA Nebulas 2039.7

Post by shoeless.db » Thu Jun 20, 2019 2:55 pm

SAI: Hey there, Stargazers, welcome to Baseball Mumbai. I am your humble host, Sai "Young" Ahuji, and with me, as always, is Aarav "the Umeba" Patil.

AARAV: I mean, wow!

SAI: Aarav?

AARAV: The s.o.b. did it. He did it! [pumps fist] GM Shoeless actually made some deals I'm happy with.

SAI: You're god-damn right he did. Stargazers, just look at a couple of the big fish our new GM snagged from the depths of the BBA sea for us to enjoy at the ballpark this year --

Jose Olivarez -- I swear to the baseball gods our GM talks with, if Olivarez doesn't win the UMEBA batting title this year, I'll cover myself in honey and let everyone in Mumbai throw feathers on me. The guy is a career .304 hitter in the BBA with over 1700 at-bats. How did we land him? How? I mean, sure, he can't play the outfield to save his life, and, sure, he's got almost no power to throw at DH, but, holy hell, we got him. We got him! We got the Oz!

Reese Rayner -- Rayner will be an anchor for our starting pitching staff. I know he was a bit expensive at 2 years/$7 million, but he should be a reliable and, sometimes, dominant pitcher for us. I mean, he's got a 90-93 record over ten pretty decent BBA seasons.

Relievers: Motoichi Fujita, Leonardo Gomez, and Aflonso Navarro
The Metro Stars are looking to improve their overall pitching performance from last year with these solid additions.

AARAV: I'm just so happy. [hugs himself]

SAI: I hope this is a sign of good things to come.

AARAV: Of course, we still have an awful defense.

SAI: Not now, Aarav. Not now. Let's just enjoy this. For Baseball Mumbai, we'll see you at the ballpark, Stargazers!

AARAV:

The problem with OZ is you basically have to play him at DH. He is soooooo bad in the outfield. And no power DH's have to absolutely kill it with on base to create value. It'll be interesting to see what he does. I signed one of those too... Antonio Valentin.

I think Elijah Curry might have a few things to say about Oz's batting title. He's a career .285 hitter in the BBA with over 2,800 AB's

Curry has just come into my office demanding a rise so that he can afford to buy the Honey and Feathers :P

As far as the batting title goes, I dunno how Flynn Johnson isn't the favorite...

You and Nige will need to take your arguments over to Sai. If anything, we should have an interesting run for the UMEBA batting crown.

His ratings against lefties might be Johnson’s downfall

Well, when you talk about batting crown (which is based on ba), I would favor Olivarez. For OPS, Johnson should be better as Olivarez does not have power to speak of (Johnson also has the better eye).

Olivarez seems to be quite a steal, actually for 2 million a year. He will be a great DH, plus he can fill in at LF when need be. What really draws me though is his high intelligence and work ethic, and that he is only 24 years old. He will only get better, and might improve his OF range as well. In fact, the only fault I could possibly find is that you only signed him for two years. I would have locked a youngster with those attributes for as long as I could, actually.

I thought about three years, but I didn’t want to tie the team to a DH with little power. He’s just such a liability in the field.

my team is proof that defense doesn't quite matter yet. It will soon, but for now a murderer's row of an offense can win a title.

None of the aforementioned players were as dominant as hoped for but Curry’s 25 homers & 105 RBI and Johnson’s 34 & 100 were probably the best production.

Bargains are still there for the eagle eyed UMEBA GM, the trick will be finding the pitchers to counter the batters

I dunno about that. Team would be in the playoffs if not for the division format and in a 7 game series I’d bet on the Hammers to win.

I will say though that as the level of pitching in UMEBA rises, a good defense will come into play more. My comment was based off if your pitching sucks and you are giving up 5 homers a game, it really doesn’t matter how good your defense is. You will lose.
