Baseball Mumbai: Top Draft Pick Review 2039.1
SAI: Welcome, Metro Stargazers, I'm your host of Baseball Mumbai, Sai "Young" Ahuji, and with me, as always, is Mr. Positivity, Aarav "the Umeba" Patil.
AARAV: Yep.
SAI: In this episode, we'll be breaking down the Metro Star's 2038 top draft pick, Rex Marriott, and the downright glorious season he put together in his first year of professional baseball with our AA-affiliate, the Ho Chi Minh City Explorers.
AARAV: I'm still exploring for anything good from this kid. I guess, he did put up a 2.3 WAR, albeit it was a negative 2.3.
SAI: According to our former GM, who this show refuses to name as he bolted to the BBA like a damn traitor, Marriot was the team's top pick this year because "Rex actually had some success playing the game in high school."
AARAV: That success netted him a cool $700,000 to suck in Ho Chi Minh.
SAI: Hey, we all need time to develop.
AARAV: Into what? A bigger disappointment?
SAI: The 18-year-old left fielder slashed a wicked .116/.142/.180 in 183 plate appearances for the Explorers. He was also able to strikeout 60 times while drawing only four walks. Baseball Mumbai's top unpaid intern, Wasim Jaffer Jr., caught up with Marriott before Marriott's departure back to his hometown of Melbourne, Australia:
(begin audio)
Marriott: "Alright, Mate. So you want the full John Dory? Well, me summer was a few stubbies short of a six pack. I got me a fair suck on the sauce bottle, but I let all the blokes and sheilas rooting for me down. I'm no Yobbo. I'll be better. I just gotta get back home to set me straight. I got to hit the frog and toad, mate."
(end audio)
AARAV: What the hell did he say?
SAI: Mumbai will be looking for Marriott to take some positive strides next year to be able to help the Metro Stars in the coming years. Well, for Baseball Mumbai, I'm Sai Ahuji, and we'll see you at the ballpark, Stargazers.

One goes he'll grow a bit in the off season, probably spending it chasing wallabies and whatnot.

All of our rookies got destroyed because the league got stocked with crappy A-AA castoffs but even those clowns are better than fresh rookies. Hopefully as the league fills up we can all come to a gentlemans agreement to not stick old guys down there to kill our rookies.

Don't sell Marriott short: He can still get you a hell of rate on hotel suites.

I think his offense would play better in Itchycoo Park.

That would be good. It sure takes a lot of the fun away from drafting and developing players.bschr682 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 4:56 pmAll of our rookies got destroyed because the league got stocked with crappy A-AA castoffs but even those clowns are better than fresh rookies. A lot of folks don't understand (or care?) About how their user of older players in low levels changes things.

Could we vote on setting an age limit for AA? Something like 21?

Re: Baseball Mumbai: Top Draft Pick Review 2039.1
That would definitely be something I oppose. Prospects age and develop differently, forcing them to be promoted due to an age limit is a remedy to rush the prospect. I use a lot of older players in lower levels because my system was so bare when I took over and I needed fillers. The key is to make sure the older player is not blocking a younger player and holding them back from playing time. As my system deepens hopefully I can begin to purge out the older players and after the last draft I was able to do that some already. It is basically impossible to have 30 promising prospects on each minor league affiliate and having guys above 23-24 years old is necessary to fill out a roster.shoeless.db wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 11:28 amCould we vote on setting an age limit for AA? Re: Baseball Mumbai: Top Draft Pick Review 2039.1
I completely understand that for the BBA. But in the UMEBA, AA is our lowest level affiliate. But, in the end, it's not that big a deal for me. I'll just play within the ruleset give.handaspencer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 12:02 pmThat would definitely be something I oppose. I can definitely see the logic for this in the UMEBA.shoeless.db wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 12:11 pmI completely understand that for the BBA. But in the UMEBA, AA is our lowest level affiliate. Re: Baseball Mumbai: Top Draft Pick Review 2039.1
Maybe it's a regressing age limit over the next few seasons? Being a new league, I'm sure it was old to begin with at the start, flooded with veterans. As each UMEBA First Year Player Draft concludes, the league will course correct itself and skew younger.

I'd wait at least another season to make any firm changes. Let the flow of players settle a bit.
