June 14-16 series at the Beirut Cedars

Highlights: The Metro Stars spoiled an excellent effort by Beirut starter R.J. Hughes Monday evening, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning and then holding on to nip Beirut 2-1. The teams were scoreless heading into the 7th, when first baseman Garth Hill hit a first-pitch fastball from Hughes 375 feet into the right field stands for a solo homer. Third baseman Robbie Hart followed with a homer of his own a couple of batters later to provide the eventual winning margin.

Player of the Game: R.J. Hughes
Cliché of the Game: “It was just a matter of executing,” said Mumbai manager Mark Bruner.

Highlights: Beirut starter Raúl Sánchez, with a little help from his bullpen, shut down the Mumbai lineup Tuesday night as the Cedars beat the Metro Stars 2-0. The key blow was a two-run double by Beirut shortstop António Soto off reliever Lyndon Rosebotham, who came into the game when starter Takeshi Tanabe had to leave with a sore arm.

Player of the Game: Raúl Sánchez
Cliché of the Game: “I’m just happy to help the team win,” said António Soto.

Highlights: The Metro Stars slipped by the Cedars Wednesday evening 4-3, scoring in the early innings and then hanging on for the win as Beirut mustered some offense late. Left fielder Alfredo González provided a two-run homer in the top of the second to help pace the offense. Closer Rafael Cruz picked up his 16th save in nailing down the win.

Player of the Game: Aurelio Fernández
Cliché of the Game: “We found a way to get it done,” said Alfredo González.

Had him in my system for a couple years- once I was close to calling him up but he just wasn't versatile enough for me to justify a bench spot for him. PERFECT UMEBA PLAYER!
