Mumbai won a tense pitchers’ duel over Jerusalem, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to spoil a shutout bid by Hammers starter Ramón Suárez. The Metro Stars entered the 8th trailing 1-0, but left fielder Alfredo González led off with a sharp single to left then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Suárez got the next batter, but yielded to reliever Ralph Fowler who allowed three straight singles. Third baseman Robbie Hart tied the game with his bloop single to short right, and then right fielder António Ortíz grounded a sharp base hit up the middle to score what ultimately proved to be the winning run.
Player of the Game: Ramón Suárez.

Metro Stars bats exploded for an offensive rampage that buried Jerusalem 11-3 in Friday’s game at the Ballpark of Mumbai. Left fielder António Ortíz, who went 3-4 with three singles and three RBIs, and third baseman Robbie Hart, who smashed a grand slam homer in the bottom of the second, keyed the attack for Mumbai.
Player of the Game: António Ortíz.
Cliché of the Game: “We’re stringing together some nice wins,” said Mumbai Manager Mark Bruner.

A two-run 8th inning broke open a tie game and boosted Jerusalem to victory in Saturday’s game at Mumbai. The teams entered the 8th knotted at 3 when Mumbai brought in reliever Sancho Ramírez, who retired his first batter but then yielded a groundball single to DH Jesús Alvarado. That brought up right fielder Manuel Jiménez, who smacked a 1-0 fastball into the left field stands for a go-ahead homer.
Player of the Game: Manuel Jiménez, who entered the game in the 4th as an injury replacement for Luis Baca.
Cliché of the Game: “Feels good to get the job done,” said Jiménez.
Notable injury: António Ortíz, Mumbai outfielder, herniated disk, out for 1-2 weeks.

The Metro Stars exploded for three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to take a lead over the Hebrew Hammers they would never relinquish. The teams entered the 6th tied 3-3, but Mumbai loaded the bases against Viacheslav Vasilyev with two walks and an infield single. Third baseman Robbie Hart brought them all home with a stand-up double to deep center that narrowly missed being a grand slam. Although Jerusalem put the tying runs aboard in the 9th, Mumbai closer Lyndon Rosebotham ultimately shut the door to preserve the win.
Player of the Game: Wilbur Green, who hit a two-run homer in the 1st.
Cliché of the Game: “I had some good swings out there,” said Wilbur Green, Mumbai right fielder.
