Alexander King has had a tumultuous career to say the least. Originally signed with the, now defunct, SimCity Simulators, in 2041 he started to hone his craft. He looks back on those days fondly. 'I just remember how fun it was hanging with my teammates. It was the first time I could say I'm getting paid to play baseball.'
After bouncing around the BBA, he was having trouble hitting his stride. He would slowly improve his pitching then an injury would pop up and he would have to slow down his development. Because of this slow development after the 2056 season he decided to step away from the game of baseball.
"At that point I was done. I was defeated and frustrated with the game. I was tired of just being a random pitcher in the minor leagues with no real prospects of joining a big league team. So I just went to my home in Escondido, California and thought, ok, I'm going to coach the local high school baseball team and have a nice, quiet. life with my family. After coaching in Escondido for a year, that itch to come back and play professional ball came back. I told my family I'm going to give it one more shot. I had to do this otherwise I would have regretted it the rest of my life.'
In March 2058 King signed a minor league contract with the Sydney Sharks. Despite having a 2.48 ERA for the AAA affiliate Lagos, he was never called up to Sydney, and never received his shot.
'I was devastated , I was thinking,'what more do I have to do?' And then I was back to being a minor league free agent.'
in the offseason the Sydney Sharks put a new man in charge and he saw what King was capable of.
'I got a call from Mr. Brodsky to sign a minor league contract with Sydney again, but he told me as long as I kept working hard he wouldn't overlook me and would give me a chance. That's all I really wanted was a chance.'
Well he has taken that chance and run with it. He has started 6 games for the Sydney Sharks and has been one of the best pitchers in the GBC. With a 2.68 ERA and a 172 ERA+ he has made GBC batters look like little kids out there. Sometimes you just have to give someone a chance in life.
