The Monarchs called up 22-year-old second baseman Naruhiko Okada as they continue to tweak their roster in hopes of defending their title this fall. Okada is a Gold Glove caliber defender at the keystone, and has a sharp eye at the plate. He is said to be a hard worker, and London hopes that he will continue to make strides even as he joins the big league club.

Monarchs GM Bob Breum said that the team believes that it is to their advantage to stack their lineup with as many left-handed hitters as possible, given the dearth of left-handed pitching in the GBC. With the addition of Okada, opposing right-handed starting pitchers can now expect to face seven batters standing on the first base side of the plate. Breum appeared to be only half joking when he suggested that he was shopping for a left-handed catcher and a left-handed center fielder, but that seems unlikely given that they have only recently traded for their current starting catcher and starting center fielder.
