We're .500, and we mean it! (Monarchives, 2051 Sim 9) [PP:2051.2]

The Monarchs sat at .500 before Mike Bauer's appointment as the new GM, and following last week's action, the Monarchs remain at .500. The team is only 5 games behing the GBC-leading Buenos Aires Brisas. On a positive note, the Monarchs won 2 of 3 games on the road versus the Brisas this last week, and still have a lot of baseball in front of them.

London did suffer one injury during the week, with speedy leadoff infielder Takechi Eida straining his hamstring. It's not serious enough to head to the DL, but the Monarchs will need to give Eida a few days off and try to make do with another batter at the top of the order.

This week's Knight award (team most valuable player) goes to 3B Nicolai Reshetkov, who went 6 for 13 with a double, a triple and 2 RBI's in 3 games. New GM Bauer didn't have him slated as an everyday player, and was evaluating other options, but Nicolai took offense to the lost playing time and built his argument to keep his starts under new management.

This week's Dunce award (team's most disappointing player) was one the Monarch's better young hitters, OF Sang-Mok Kim. The South Korean saw his batting average drop from .343 to .318 during last week's action, and his lone HR came in a Monarchs loss.

Coming up next for the Monarchs: the wrap-up game in Buenos Aires, a 3-game trip to Athens, and then back in London to host the Tokyo Pearls. Bauer is still getting used to the technological marvels of the 2050's ... next-day road games halfway around the globe and dealing with players and staff who speak over a dozen different languages! But everything is indeed a piece of cake in the GBC.
