Come On, You Stumps!
Musings of a Beirut Sports Curmudgeon

Beirut in May is actually quite a pleasant place to be, with daytime highs in the seventies and nighttime lows in the sixties. You wouldn't know it by the performance of the local baseball team, though. The Cedars hate May, or at least feel compelled to simply take the month off. Take your pick. Beirut's May record for the past two seasons is a combined 22-34.

It has consistently been the team's worst month. Last year, the Cedars' May performance insured a losing season, their first since 2041, and so far their only sub-five hundred year of the Burt era (which began in 2044, post-contraction).

While the 2046 Cedars would never recover from a disastrous May, the 2047 team has, thanks to a torrid July (16-9) and even hotter August (21-7) that have seen Beirut ascend to the top spot in the Burt League.

But what is the trouble with May? It's not a strength of schedule issue, the June schedule was more formidable, and the Cedars managed a 15-13 record in that month. It's not a slow start issue. The Cedars had a good April (15-11). Likely it's the randomness of the universe presenting what appears to be a pattern when, in fact, none exists.

Or maybe it's The Curse of May!

You should try it with players that only play for three weeks every month lol. When that costs you 25 losses in four months you end up right up against it
