The Cedars began their 20 game road trip with a rousing start as they won 2 out of 3 games against the defending champs in Jerusalem and then took 2 out of 3 against Bucharest. The first game started out with a pair of 2-run homers by Pierre Cordona and OIliver Ruiz in the first inning an then rode the arm Ruben Nunez and the Cedar bullpen to a 4 to 3 win. The Cedars also had a key 3 to 1 win behind a Dave Bane homer against Bucharest.
The BANC standings were ransacked this week with Beirut taking the top spot at 27 -21, Mumbai moved up to second a half game back, Bucharest fell down to third at 25 – 22 while Jerusalem is in fourth, but still are only 4 games out of the lead at 23 – 25.
The players providing significant contributions during Week 8 were:
SP Abel Gibson – Earned a win allowing one run in 5.2 innings.
SP R.J. Hughes – Gained another win allowing one run in 6 innings.
CL Corbin Torres – Picked up three saves in three appearances allowing no runs.
MR John Jefferson – Had two more appearances without allowing a run running his streak to 9 consecutive outings without allowing a run. This streak now covers 8.1 innings over the last 41 days.
LF Pierre Cordona : Cranked out 3 HR and drove in 8 runs with a .400 average for the week
1B Oliver Ruíz : Had another hot week batting .412 with a homer and 5 RBI.
DH Ramiro Marino : Hit .350 this past week with a homer and 3 RBI.
The Cedars have 14 more games left in their 20 game road trip. This week includes stops in Cairo and Manama. Next game’s projected starter for Beirut wlll be Henning Veenman (3-3, 5.17 ERA).
