Dugout Dirt 2041.10 - Week 4 Summary

Week 4 for the Beirut squad resulted in the home fans seeing the Cedars take 2 out of 3 games against Cairo and another 2 out of 3 games against Manama.

The eagerly awaited start of newly acquired Ruben Nunez did not disappoint the home crowd as he pitched 7.2 innings of one hit/no run ball in a 5 to 0 win. The Cedar arms were strong overall this week with the pitching staff allowing less than 3 runs in 4 out of the 6 games. The Cedars also beat Manama 3-2 with a two-out single by Chester Owens in the bottom of the ninth.

The BANC standings at this point has Mumbai at the top of the heap at 14-9. Bucharest is settled in at second at 12-11 and Jerusalem/Beirut are both at 12-12.

The players providing significant contributions during Week 4 were:
SP Ruben Nunez – Earned a win in his Cedar debut while striking out 10 in 7.2 scoreless innings.
SP R.J. Hughes – Also earned a win and pithed 6 scoreless innings.
RP Francisco Luna – Francisco allowed 1 run in 6 innings while striking out 8 over three appearances.
CF Maximo Quezada – Continued his quick pace out of the gate with 3 additional homers and hit .348 for the week.
1B Oliver Ruiz – Belted two homers and averaged .318
RF Carlos Torres – Hit .360 for the week.

Next week includes yet another six home games with the first three being against the 17-7 league best record team from Istanbul and the other three being against Baghdad. Next game’s projected starter for Beirut wlll be R.J. Hughes (1-2, 5.60 ERA).

I'll be watching the Cedars and Ruben Nunez all season long!
