Dugout Dirt 2041.6 - Week 1 Summary

After the first week of the 2041 season, the Beirut Cedars finished 3-3 against two of the tree Bancroft division foes. The first series while visiting Mumbai turned into Beirut winning two out of the three games. The second series resulted in Beirut losing two out of three games to defending United Cup champions Jerusalem. The near capacity crowd of 24,700+ fans for each of the games were treated to an extra inning game in a 6 to 4 loss and a 3-run late inning homer by pinch hitter Rick Lindsey in a 6 to 5 win.


The players providing significant contributions during the first week were:
SP Abel Gibson – Abel went 7 innings allowing 2 runs in a win over Mumbai.
SP Francisco Ruiz – Francisco strike out 7 in 6.2 innings while allowing one run in a win over Mumbai.
RP Jose Carrillo – Jose allowed one run in 4.1 innings over two relief appearances while picking up a win against Jerusalem
LF Pierre Cordona – Led the Cedar bats this week by hitting .429.
1B Rick Lindsey – Only had one hit in five AB’s, but he made it count by hitting a home run to win the game.
3B Antonio Baca – Started his first season with the Cedars by hitting .400 this past week.
2B Chester Owens – Hit for an average of .320 while adding a home run and 5 RBI’s.
CF Maximo Quezada – Belted 2 homers and drove in 6 runs while hitting .269.

Next week has the Cedars scheduled to host Bucharest for three games and then travel for a three game set at Mumbai. The projected starter for the Beirut wlll be Abel Gibson who is 1-0 this season with a 2.57 ERA.
