Dugout Dirt 2041.4 - Spring Training Update

Post by DugoutDesperado » Mon Dec 23, 2019 9:24 am

As the 2041 Spring Training begins, anxious Cedar fans are wanting to find a few indicators for how the regular season will go and if any ground is gained on the Jerusalem and Bucharest teams for a potential playoff spot. As the first half of spring training unfolded, the answer was not overly appealing.
With the spring training schedule limited to the Cedars only playing against their Bancroft brethren, the Cedars finished 5-10 along with Mumbai. On the other side of the coin, both Jerusalem finished 10-5.
The breakdown of the wins and losses paint a slightly less painful picture as it seems the biggest chink in the spring training armor was against Bucharest.

JER 2 - 3
BUC 0 - 5
MUM 3 – 2

With all of the GM’s checking out rosters nearing 60 players, spring training performance does not a season indicate, but still it makes good conversation at the favorite bar and eatery across the street from the stadium, The Loaded Potato.

A look at a few of the individual performances so far in spring training includes:
2B Chester Owens – Hitting .400 with 3 HR’s
LF David Brunskill - .357
C Fernando Ortiz - .333 with 1 HR
3B Antonio Baca - .323 with 1 HR

RP Mauro Silva – 0 ER in 4.2 innings
RP John Jefferson – 1.35 ERA with 7 K’s in 6.2 innings
SP Francisco Ruiz – 19 K’s in 12 innings

Look for a few adjustments in the second half of spring training to get a look at some different prospects.
