Beirut Dugout Dirt - Ulaanbaatar 2040 Regular Season Summary

Post by DugoutDesperado » Sun Nov 24, 2019 6:55 pm

Spectactors in Ulaanbaatar saw their team compile an 83-57 record during the 2040 A League season. If the 28 game improvement in AAA Victoria was inspiring, then the 49 game improvement over the Horde’s 34-106 record was downright gaudy. It resulted in the Horde securing a wild card slot. The team turnover from 2039 included 11 new pitchers and new 16 batters.
There were a lot of key contributions made to the Horde this season, but here are just a few of the notables:
Francisco Trejo. SP. This 24 year old was signed last off season after a 6 year lay off from college and responsed with a 11-5 record and a 2.63 ERA. He also racked up 154 K’s in 160 innings.
Joe D’antonio. SP. The 2039 first rounder for Beruit was moved back from AAA to A while he worked out some control issues. Joe achieved a 11-6 record with a 3.46 ERA. The knuckleballer got 230 K’s in 140 innings while limiting his walks to 70.
Alberto Romero. CL. This unknown was discovered by a scout this season and brought on outside of the draft. Alberto was able to register 28 saves in 40 appearances while maintaining a 3.57 ERA.
On the offensive side of the plate, Carlos Ruiz swatted 20 homers and hit .366. While his glove is a major liability, look for Carlos to work his way through the Cedar organization over the next 3 years as he is still only 21.
Dicky Van Ineveld. SS. Solid glove while hitting .332 with 9 HRs. Dicky also managed to swipe 35 bases this year.
Kaoru Kodo. LF. Combines amazing speed and a stellar glove while averaging .306 and hitting 14 homers. Kaoru also swipped 29 bases this year before a late season injury cut his season short of the playoffs.
Leonardo Negrete. 1B. Barely average glove but Leonardo did hit .356 this year and had 11 HRs.
All in all, the horde had 10 different players with averages over .300 this season. None of which was this year’s first round pick, Marco Acheson (.123) or second round pick Trent Mangan (.243) who will hopefully start hitting their strides in 2041.
The Beirut organization is looking forward to expanding into a AA team next season.
