Beirut Announces ABA, FEBL Affiliations

Post by Rubaboo » Thu Feb 28, 2019 9:25 am

2037 was, in many ways, a rousing success for the UMEBA in a number of ways. Fans filled (admittedly small) stadiums in support of their teams, the league played a stable half season, and, biggest of all, BBA has-beens and never-weres mixed with unknowns and gained some recognition for performances amongst their peers. After 2037, where does the road map lead though? The answer: onward and upward.

BBA commissioner Matt Rectenwald and de-facto UMEBA head Brett Schroeder recently discussed the sweeping changes that would be coming to UMEBA in 2038 in a BNN broadcast. Teams will be seeing massively increased budgets, expanded rosters, rules standardized with the BBA, and the formation of two minor leagues, the Far East Baseball League and the African Baseball Alliance. Teams have been working to secure places to play and to brand and market these teams, with some announcements trickling out little by litte, and Beirut has been hard at work as well. Today, the team held a press conference to announce that it had decided on locations for its minor league affiliates.

"We at Beirut are very pleased to announce that we have recently reached agreements with two wonderful locations that will house our AA Far East Baseball League and AAA African Baseball Alliance teams. Our AAA team will be based in Victoria, Seychelles. After reviewing several locations and hearing pitches from leadership from various countries and cities, we settled on Victoria for a number of reasons. First, Victoria's human rights and development scores are the highest of any member nation of the African Union. There has not been the history of atrocities that are well documented for much of the continent. It was important for us to find a locale where players and fans would feel safe and secure and would also have the infrastructure required to support the travel and accomodation demands of hosting a professional baseball team. Victoria checked all the boxes for us. We have high confidence that Victoria is a perfect place for minor league baseball."

After the bright sunshine of Victoria, the second part of the announcement came as a bit of a surprise...

"For our AA Far East Baseball League affiliate, we have decided to choose Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The city and country both are steeped in rich and ancient history, it's a major transport hub for the area, and the large population will help carry a successful minor league baseball squad. The city is a beautiful one in the summer months, where picturesque views of the forested peaks that surround the city join with warm, humid weather to produce a perfect summer baseball atmosphere."

The team is still awaiting final approval from the BBA governing board of these locations but work is already underway on facilities, logos, and uniforms for the teams. 2038 will be an exciting year for the UMEBA and its GMs.
