Growing old in Cairo (2041-9)

Around the World with the Cairo farm

Triple-A Nairobi Diamonds

It’s been a success laden existence for Nairobi Drifters (renamed the Diamonds for the 2041), winning 307 games in their three years and making the post season every year. With the struggles of Cairo last year & this year Nairobi may well see a falloff in results as top prospects may well spend less time in Triple-A or even bypass it altogether. There’s some evidence of that already as their win percentage is down as low as .541 with their current record standing at 20-17, one game behind Beirut’s affiliate Victoria.

23-yr-old left fielder Brody Weston has been getting closer to Cairo for some time and his defence may well have improved to get his promotion in 2042. 24-yr-old Alejandro Flores, a mid-2040 MiL FA pickup, hasn’t quite been as impressive as hoped. With backup Jim Giles now suffering torn triceps that will probably keep him out till August, the club have just called up top SS prospect 23-yr-old Rakim Stevenson. Injuries have seen his development stutter, but he seems on the right track now – expect him to get plenty of AB’s in Nairobi with his sound defence.

22-yr-old Paco Munoz, a 2040 Rule 7 pick from Madison, is already being mentioned as a 2041 callup following the Chariot Archers pitching struggles, at the moment the plan is to keep him in AAA for the rest of the year but things could change. 29-yr-old, #4 starter in the rotation, Mazer Bausi is one of the few other pitchers that might make an impact, but his age will probably stop him being much more than a minor league foot soldier. The pitching staff, in common with Cairo’s, is really in need of a rebuild and the franchise may well concentrate on that in the coming drafts.

Great overview, Nigel. Weston looks like a strong prospect - his defense actually looks pretty good.

And excellent job with the charts. They look terrific!
