September 1st 2039
As the UMEBA crawls into the last full month of the season there’s definitely a difference between the BURT and BANC leagues. As of today, the whole of BANC enters September on a winning streak while the whole of BURT is on a losing streak. Cairo is 4-6 over the last ten games of the month but still extended their lead after their only real rival, Manama, went 1-9 in the same period and both rounded out the month on a four-game losing streak. It’s been hard in Cairo with two one-run wins in the last six games of the month followed by three one-runs losses and a two-run loss.
31-yr-old infielder George Bluth has proved to be a good pickup as an injury replacement for Pietro Richelmi, in his first two weeks he played sound defence at Short with a range over five and a ZR of +2.2 as well as hitting .294/.345/.373. Now with Richelmi off the IL there was expected to be a decision to be made over who starts? Thankfully due to roster expansion both could stay on the roster without causing any problems, but then another injury postponed that decision. Just as Richelmi returned third baseman Felix Arrojo turned his ankle and is expected to miss most, if not all of September. Now both Bluth & Richelmi will be able to start this month. With both of them being defensive Gods in the infield I have no fears about them covering third & short, Bluth will get the nod in third as his arm is slightly better and Richelmi will return to short as he really shines at turning double plays. Second baseman Garrett Barnett is destined to spend the rest of the season sitting on the bench or on waivers after a disappointing season, he needs two more AB’s to meet his vesting option and the Chariot Archers are determined he won’t see those. Aubrey Anderson who leads the team in HR, RBI & WAR finished August hitting just .125 for the final week while William Parker, a .330 hitter on the season also finished August’s final week hitting a paltry .105.
The rotation hasn’t really been influencing the results over the last month, despite most outings going 5-7 innings. The last five times round the rotation has them tagged for six wins and eight losses, most of them coming from injury replacement 34-yr-old Tony Caraballo who is 2-3 in his last five starts. Ramon Garza, in the midst of a slump is 1-3 in five starts, Francisco Quintana is 1-1 in five starts, Abel Gibson is 1-0 in five starts while Roberto Gomez, chasing his tenth win of the season is stuck on nine wins as he’s managed a 0-1 record over the last three starts. The bullpen have been turning a few tricks though, Gurmu Icharia picked up August’s BURT pitcher of the month award, in his last five outings he has given up just two hits in six innings pitched and no runs at all. Both Renzo Steffanelli & Jesus Casas have also not given up an earned runs in their last five outings.

Speaking of disparity between the leagues, there is a legit shot I finish with the 3rd best record in the entire league and have to sit out the post season. Neat.

Yes, I’m glad I’m in the BURT rather than the BANC lol.
