The City of a thousand Minarets (2039-4)

Post by Fat Nige » Sat Jul 06, 2019 3:40 pm

April 29th, 2039

With just two games left during April, both in Mumbai, the Chariot Archers have picked up where they left off in 2038 and now lead the Burt league by three games after winning 18 out of 25 games. There was a bad blip when star SS Piero Richelmi was ruled out for a month or so but Christian Baudouin has slotted in well. Cario has also gone out and signed 28-yr-old Martin Cooper out a two-year, $1,900 deal as a backup SS.

Cairo have lost series in Istanbul and also at home to Bagdad but have a run differential of +49. Pitcher Roberto Gomez is back from his sore shoulder suffered in early March and is 1-0 in his first two starts while Gonzalo Delgado is 4-0 from five starts. Ramon Gaza, the Chariot Archer’s expected ace, should be back by mid-May meanwhile.

Cairo’s tally of 151 homers and 153 runs scored is only topped by Jerusalem of the Banc league but then again, they have all had the 2-22 Beirut and their -121 RD to beat up on. Despite those attacking figures Cairo have 14 saves, six more than the next highest total. Their defence hasn’t been the best though with their 17 double-plays only being better than Istanbul’s 14.

Triple-A Nairobi (16-7) has a two game lead at the top of their division, with 27-yr-old Rodrigo Estrada hitting .360 alongside 4 homers & 19 RBI in his 19 games. One thing though that must be mentioned is the form of Taipei. Moved to an A ball league, the Cairo franchise decided that they would be a proper development league for the Chariot Archers. Consequently after open trials in which 95 attended the maximum age of players on the roster is 22, and there’s only four of them; all others are 21 or below. Despite competing against older teams they have an 8-8 record and Brody Weston has just picked up his league’s player of the week award for hitting .444 with three homers & 12 RBI as well as scoring six times
