Istanbul travels to Bucharest for a three game clash of the titans at the Ballpark of Bucharest.

Game 1- Bucharest ambushed the Bosphorus at the Ballpark scoring 15 runs in a beat down. 42 year old Impalers Starter Jose Olvera held Istanbul to 2 runs over five innings. He earned his 2nd win of the season since being called up from AAA. Bucharest’s defense turned 5 double plays and threw a runner out at home.

2B Juan Rodriguez hits 2 doubles in 4 at bats and scored a run.

SS Jose Lopez was 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.


Final score: Bucharest impales Istanbul 15-3.

Game 2- Tied 1-1 in the eighth, Istanbul score 4 runs to take the lead. The big hit was a 3 run homer by LF John Garcia. Garcia was 1 for 4 and is hitting .290 with 45 homers and 108 RBI.

1B Bai-luo Jiu was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

SP Ramon Negron pitched 5 innings allowing just 1 run on 3 hits and 4 walks. He struck out 4 in 91 pitches.


Final score: Istanbul bounces back 5-1.

Game 3- LF John Garcia goes 3 for 4 with another homer and drives in 3 more runs and SP Luis Tavares pitches 8 strong innings as the Bosphorus take the series.

Tavares gives up 2 runs on 6 hits and a walk while striking out 2. He improved to 3-3 with a 4.88 ERA.

RP Bras Geisteras allowed a run but still recored his 27th save of the season.


Final score: Istanbul wins 4-3 and takes the series 2-1.

Istanbul was 71-55 on August 25th and leads the BURT by 12 games over Manama.

Bucharest falls to 76-50 and leads the BANCROFT by 10 games over Beirut.


Istanbul arrived in Beirut to take on the Cedars in a three games series.

Game 1- Beirut’s DH Juan Rodriguez hits a 3 run homer off RP Ismael Rivera as the Cedars take the first game of the series.

SP Francis Wiles pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and a couple of walks. He struck out 4 in a no decision.

Rivera gave up those 3 big runs on 3 hits. He fell to 6-3 and took his 3rd down save of the season.

SS Jose Lopez was 1 for 2 with a homer, walk, run scored and 2 RBI.

DH Patrick Lue was 1 for 4 with a solo homer.


Final score: Beirut wins 5-3.

Game 2- Istanbul DH Bai-luo Jiu crushed a Grand Slam in the first inning and the Bosphorus score 7 times over the first two innings.

Jiu was 3 for 4 with a runs scored and 4 RBI. He is hitting .321 with 11 homers and 55 RBI.

C Anibal Garcia was 2 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI.

SS Jose Lopez was 3 for 4 with an RBI.

SP Vladimir Reichel pitched 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 2 in winning his 6th game of the season.

RP Claudio Escobedo has found his niche as a reliever going 2 innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 5.

RP Bras Gesteiras earned his 28th save pitching a clean ninth and striking out 2.


Final score: Istanbul wins 7-4.

Game 3- Istanbul has a big first inning for the second straight game as the Bosphorus win the games and the series. C Anibal Garcia was 2 for 5 with a double in the first. He scored 2 runs and drove in 1.

DH Patrick Lue was 2 for 4 with a walk, 2 runs and an RBI.

3B Ken Pike was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI.

RF Rich Ayers was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI.

SS Jose Lopez remains on fire going 3 for 5 with a run scored. Lopez was asked after the game, “What has he changed?”

Lopez stated through his interpreter, “Right now I’m just see ball, hit ball. Keeping it simple.”

SP Charlie Simmons pitched very well. He pitched 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7. He improved to 12-4 with a 4.35 ERA.

Final score: Istanbul wins 8-5 and takes the series 2-1.

Istanbul was 73-56 on August 29th and leads Manama by 12 games.

Beirut was 67-62 and trailed Bucharest by 12 games.


Istanbul plays a three game series in Mumbai at the Ballpark.

Game 1- Istanbul faced Mumbai SP Aurelio Fernandezafter his beaning of DH Patrick Lue. Lue was asked, “What do you expect at todays game?”

Lue said, “I expect cooler heads to prevail. But if anyone gets hit, that’s his ass.”

Istanbul struck first in the game as RF Hyung-on Ch’oe tripled and drove in CF Hector Correa who had doubled to lead off the game. After that, Fernandez kept his cool and shut down the Bosphorus and Mumbai gets the win at home.

Correa was 1 for 5 with a run scored.

Ch’oe was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Fernandez was excellent for Mumbai pitching 7 innings allowing just the one run on 6 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 9 batters improving to 13-9 on the season.


Final score: Mumbai wins 5-2.

Game 2- Istanbul and Mumbai engaged in a slugfest at the Ballpark. Istanbul took the early lead 2-0 but fell behind after a 7 run second inning by Mumbai. Mumbai extended to 8-2 in the third but in the top of the fourth Istanbul fought back with 6 runs to tie it up at 8-8. The Metro Stars scored a run in the fifth to take their final lead.

In the eighth, 1B Bai-luo Jiu doubled scoring CF Hector Correa to tie the game at 9-9. Then in the top of the ninth, 2B Juan Rodriguez drew a walk, moved to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch. Later, SS Jose Lopez singled scoring C Anibal Garcia giving Istanbul an insurance run.

RP Bras Gesteiras came on in the ninth and earned his 30th save of the season. He has dropped his ERA to 2.98.

Jiu was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Rodriguez was 3 for 4 with 3 runs and an RBI.

Garcia was 2 for 4 with 2 runs.

3B Ken Pyke was 1 for 3 with a homer and 3 RBI.


Final score: Istanbul wins 11-9 and evens the series.

Game 3- Istanbul loses the lead and the game in the eighth as the Metro Stars comeback late.

RP Bernardino Bertoletti opened the bottom of the eighth by hitting a batter and then he induced 2 fly outs. He was pulled for RP Nadir Akili. Akili got the hitter to ground a ball to SS Jose Lopez but Lopez booted it extending the inning. Akili then threw a wild pitch moving the runners to second and third. He then walked that hitter to load the bases. Then, unbelievably, he threw another wild pitch allowing another run to score. Akili walked that batter and loaded the bases again. Then he allowed a run scoring single before getting an unassisted ground out to first to end the inning. But the damage had been done.

Istanbul 1B Kazuo Yamamoto was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Lopez continues his hit hand going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.

LF John Garcia finally shook off his problems going 1 for 3 with a homer. He walked and scored 2 runs. He has 47 homers and 113 RBI.


Final score: Mumbai wins 5-4 and takes the series 2-1.

Istanbul was 74-58 on September 1st, leading the BURT 12 games over Manama.

Mumbai was 60-72, last in the BANCROFT 20 games back of Bucharest.
