Istanbul welcomes the Bagdad Kings to the Grounds for a three game series.

Game 1- The Istanbul Offense hits 4 homers and SP Luis Tavares pitches 7 strong innings as the Bosphorus take the first game of the series.

RF Hyung-on Ch’oe hit a lead off homer, going 1 for 4 with 2 runs and an RBI.

CF Hector Correa was 2 for 3 with a homer, a run and 3 RBI.

LF Rich Ayers was 2 for 3 with a homer, a run and 2 RBI.

1B Kazuo Yamamoto was 1 for 4 with a solo homer. It was his 20th HR of the season.

Tavares allowed 1 run over the 7 innings giving up 3 hits and issuing 2 walks. He struck out 3 in earning his 2nd win of the season.


Final score: Istanbul wins 7-2.

Game 2- Bagdad DH Raul Hernandez hits 2 big flies and SP Jon Byrd holds Istanbul to 2 runs as the Kings bounce back in the second game.

Hernandez was 3 for 3 with 2 homers, a walk 2 runs and 4 RBI

The lone bright spot was yet another homer from LF John Garcia. Garcia hit his 41st of the season in the fourth inning off of Byrd.

SP Francis Wiles labored through 4 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs n 5 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 1 in the loss. He fell to 12-8 on the season with a 3.53 ERA.


Final score: Bagdad wins 8-2.

Game 3- RF Rich Ayers homered twice and CF Hector Correa doubles and triples as the Bosphorus slay the Kings at the Grounds. SP Charlie Simmons pitched 6 strong innings allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and a walk. He struck out 4 and won his 9th game of the season.

Yamamoto was 3 for 4 with a homer, scoring 2 runs and driving 4 RBI. He also walked twice.

Correa was 4 for 5 scoring 3 runs and driving in 1.

Ayers was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 5 RBI.


Final score: Istanbul wins 13-1 and takes the series 2-1.

Istanbul was 62-46 on August 5th, 11 games up on Bagdad in the BURT.

Bagdad fell to 51-58.


The Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers stumble into Istanbul after losing 2 for 3 in Mumbai for a three game series at the Grounds.

Game 1- Jerusalem scores 3 runs in the top of the thirteenth off RP Jose Espinoza then hold off the Bosphorus in the bottom the inning to draw first blood in the series.

Errors didn’t help SP Vladimir Reichel as he allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits. He walked no batters and struck out 3.

Espinoza allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and gave up 2 walks in his 2/3 of an inning of work. He struck out 2 batters but took the loss.

1B Bai-luo Jiu was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

SS Jose Lopez was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.


Final score: Jerusalem wins 8-5.

Game 2- The Istanbul and Jerusalem battle to a tie through five innings but the Bosphorus pitching cant get the job done again as the Hebrew Hammers get by Istanbul.

SP Ramon Negron allowed 3 homers in his start against the Hammers and allowed 4 runs total. He pitched 6 innings giving up 9 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. He fell to 4-2 with a 3.55 ERA.

1B Bao-luo jiu was 2 for 2 with a triple and a walk. He is 4 for his last 6 over Games 1 and 2. He is hitting .299 with 9 homers and 41 RBI.

C Anibal Garcia was 3 for 4 with a run scored.

3B Ken Pike was 1 for 3 with a 2 RBI double in the fourth inning.


Final score; Jerusalem wins 5-3.

Game 3- Istanbul SP Luis Tavares and Jerusalem SP Schuan-yan Bu allow 4 runs each in the first inning but Bu settles in after that and pitches 7 2/3 scoreless to help the Hammers sweep past the Bosphorus.

Bu pitched 8 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and a walk. He struck out 5 hitters enroute to his 3rd win of the season. Meanwhile, Tavares pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing 7 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits and 5 walks while striking out 2. A big error by 1B Kaz Yamamoto in the first started the debacle that was mae worse by those 5 walks.

RF Rich Ayers homered again in his 4 at bats.

1B Yamamoto was 2 for 3 with a homer. He scored a run and drove in 2.

DH Bao-luo Jiu homered in the first off of Bu and was 1 for 4 in the game. He ended the series 5 for 10. He is hitting .298 with 10 homers and 42 RBI.


Final score: Jerusalem wins 8-4 and sweeps the series.

Istanbul falls to 62-49 on August 8th. The Bosphorus maintain their 11 game lead over the Bagdad Kings in the BURT.

Jerusalem improved to 55-56 and trail Bucharest by 13 in the BANCROFT.
