The Bosphorus Insider 2041.12

Istanbul is on the last 2 legs of the UMEBA Road Tour. The Bosphorus arrive in Cairo to challenge the Chariot Archers in a three game series.

Game 1- Cairo CF Raul Castrejon goes 5 for 5 and leads the Chariot Archers to victory over the BURT Leaders. Castrejon hit a double and four singles, scoring a run and driving in 2.

C Anibal Garcia was 3 for 4 in a losing cause for the Bosphorus. He scored twice and drove in 2.

CF Hyung-on Ch’oe was 2 for 5 with a homer. He scored 2 runs and drove in 1 RBI.

SP Vladimir Reichel was hit hard by the Chariot Archers pitching just 2 2/3 innings allowing 7 runs on 6 hits while issuing 2 walks. He struck out 1 and took the loss falling to 5-4 on the season. He ERA bloated to 4.38.


Final score: Cairo wins 11-7.


Game 2- Cairo Starter Tae-kyong “Tommy” Chong gets his second straight win vs Istanbul as he limits the Bosphorus to solo homers by LF John Garcia and 1B Kazuo Yamamoto as the Chariot Archers take second game of the series 7-2.

LF Adrian Young was 3 for 4 against Istanbul Pitching as he homered, doubled and singled. He scored 1 run and drove in 2 to lead Cairo Hitters.

Garcia was 1 for 3 with a homer and a walk. He is hitting .303 with 35 homers and 84 RBI this season.

Yamamoto was also 1 for 3 with a homer and a walk. He is hitting just .230 but has 17 homers and 46 RBI.

SP Luis Tavares took his beating over 4 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs on 6 hits and issued 4 walks. He struck out 3 in the loss and he falls to 1-1.


Final score: Cairo wins 7-2.

Game 3- Istanbul leads 6-2 going into the bottom of the ninth and withstand a furious charge by the Chariot Archers. RP Bras Geisteras gave up 3 runs on 3 hits before getting the final out as the Bosphorus squeak out the win.

SP Ramon Negron threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with a couple of walks. He recorded 4 strikeouts in 91 pitches. He improved to 4-0 with a 2.04 ERA this season.

LF John Garcia homers again going 2 for 4 with a walk. He scored a run and drove in 2.

3B Ken Pike was 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored. He is hitting .304 with 7 homers and 40 RBI.


Final score: Istanbul narrowly avoids being swept winning the finale 6-5.

As of July 22nd, Istanbul was 58-38 and led the Manama Pearls by 13 games.

Cairo was 41-55 and crept to 17 back of Istanbul.


Istanbul finishes the long road trip in Bagdad with a three game series with the Kings.

Game 1- Bagdad Starter Jon Byrd held the Istanbul Offense to just 2 hits and 2 runs over 6 innings of work and the bull pen finishes the job as the Bosphorus stumble to the finish line.

SP Francis Wiles had a bad day as he pitched 5 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 4 in a losing cause. He falls to 12-6 with a 3.06 ERA.

LF John Garcia provided the offense going 1 of 4 with 2 RBI.


Final score: Bagdad wins 5-2.

Game 2- Down 7-1, Istanbul scores 5 in the eighth but fall short again as they lose again to Bagdad. Kings Starter Gurmu Ichariapitched 7 strong innings allowing just 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 3 in 90 pitches.

Istanbul was led by 3B Ken Pyke. Pyke was 3 for 4 with a 3 run homer. He drove in 4 runs while scoring 1.

C Anibal Garcia was 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI.

SP Charlie Simmons added his name to the growing list of Istanbul Pitchers getting hammered by opposing hitters. Simmons pitcher 2 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 2 in 57 pitches. He falls to 8-3 with a 4.86 ERA.


Final score: Kings win 7-6.

Game 3- The Kings score late on a Jack Hankey single and hold on to sweep the road weary Bosphorus. Kings SP Ramon Suarez took care of business going 7 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and a couple of walks. He struck out 9 Istanbul Hitters enroute to his 7th win of the season.

C Anibal Garcia homered again going 2 for 3 with a homer and a walk. He scored once and drove in 2.

SP Vladimir Reichel pitched 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and a couple of walks. He struck out 3 in the no decision.


Final score: The Kings win 4-3 and sweep the series.

Istanbul was 58-41 as of July 26th. They lead the Manama Pearls by 12 games.

Bagdad was 45-54 and trailed Istanbul by 13 games but were just 1 game behind the Pearls.

Looks like the Bosphorus will happy to come home. Tough end to the road trip!
