The Bosphorus Insider 2041.4

Image Istanbul began the week with a three game home series vs the Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers.

Game 1-The Bosphorus crush the Hammers using a 6 run fourth inning and another fantastic start by SP Vladimir Reichel.

Reichel pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and a couple of walks. He struck out 7 and threw 108 pitches (67 strikes). He is now 3-1 with a 1.42 ERA.

RP Claudio Escobedo in a new role in relief, threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed just one hit and K’d 5 Hammers.

All starting fielders had an RBI with SS Jose Lopez leading the way with 2. He was 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored.

3B Ken Pike was 1 for 4 with a homer.

Final score: Istanbul wins 10-1.

Game 2-Istanbul falls behind Jerusalem 4-3 after four innings but respond with another big inning. The Bosphorus score 5 runs in the seventh to take an 8-4 lead and survive a late charge by the Hammers to come out on top.

SP Brendan Carr.html struggled through 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 9 hits and a walk. He struck out 7 in a no decision.

RF Hyung-on Ch’oe was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.

CF Hector Correa was 2 for 4 with a solo homer, scored 2 runs and walked once.

1B Bai-luo Jiu was 2 for 4 scoring 2 runs and driving in 1.

Final score: Istanbul wins 8-6.

Game 3-Istanbul races out to a 5-1 lead and survive a 3 run eighth by Jerusalem to complete the sweep.

SS Jose Lopez led the offense again going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. He is hitting .267 this season.

C Anibal Garcia went deep and walked once. He scored 2 runs and is batting .277 with 4 HR and 16 RBI.

SP Francis Wiles improved to 5-4 by pitching 6 strong innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits. he walked no one and struck out 2.

RP Gesteiras picked up his 8th save with a scoreless ninth.

Final score: Istanbul wins 5-4.

The end of the week the Bosphorus welcomed the Bucharest Impalers to the Grounds.

Game 1- The Impalers and Bosphorus played a classic nail biter that saw good pitching and timely hitting. Bucharest scored the winning run in the eighth off of RP Rodrigo Lugo.

SP Bert Hackworth pitched 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and a couple of walks. He hit a batter and struck out 4.

LF John Garcia led the offense going 3 for 4 with a homer. He is hitting .316 with 16 HR and 47 RBI.

Final score: Bucharest wins 5-4.

Game 2- The Impalers crushed the Bosphorus in a combined effort by SP Tadamichi Yoshida and
RP Kyle Elston . They combined in allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and 3 walks.

C Willie Parker wore out Istanbul pitching going 4 for 4 with a walk, 2 runs scored and a ribbie.

Correa led the way for the Bosphorus going 2 for 4 with a run scored and a SB. He did commit his 2nd error of the season.

SP Bernardino Bertoletti was ugly in the loss going 2 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits and walking 2. He struck out 1 while throwing 60 pitches (33 strikes).

Final score: Impalers win 7-1

Game 3- SP Vlad Reichel had another good start and the bullpen shutdown the Impalers Offense to salvage the last game of the series.

Reichel pitched 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk. He struck out 5 and gave up a her.

RP Charlie Simmons, RP Rodrigo Lugo and RP Bras Gesteiras combined for 4 innings of scoreless ball. They allowed 2 hits and a walk and truck out 6. Lugo earned his 5th win and Gesteiras got his 9th save.

C Anibal Garcia homered going 1for 4 and 1B Jiu was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Final score: Istanbul wins 3-2.

The Impalers take 2 of 3 and sit at 28-25 on the season.

Istanbul is 36-18 and leads by 7 over Manama.

Istanbul is a beast - impressive to see the Bosphorus doubling up its number of wins versus losses.
