Image The Bosphorus began the week with a three games series at home vs the Cairo Chariot Archers BC.

Game 1 began with the good guys scoring a run in the bottom of the first on a fielders choice off the bat of RF Arthur Norris allowing CF Hector Correa to cross the plate. That would be all the runs that Cairo SP Jesus Lopez would allow as he shut out the Bosphorus for the next 6 1/3 innings. Lopez also allowed just one hit.

Cairo scored runs in the 5th, 7th and 8th innings and Chariot Archer RP Bjorn de Rooij closed it out with a clean 2 innings as Cairo cruised to a 5-1 win.

Istanbul Starter Bernardino Bertoletti pitched seven innings allowing 4 runs on 9 hits and no walks. He struck out 4 throwing 105 pitches (68 for strikes). He falls to 3-2 with a 4.12 ERA.

Correa had the only hit for Istanbul going 1 for 4.

Final score: Cairo wins 5-1

Game 2 had the Chariot Archers striking for 2 runs in the top of the first then 3 more in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth was when the home team bats woke up. Istanbul scored 3 in the sixth. The big hit was a 2-run double off the bat of 1B Moromao Hirose. The Bosphorus scored single runs in the 7th and 8th to tie the game.

After Istanbul Reliever Vladimir Reichel stuffed the Cairo offense in the top of the 9th the Chariot Archers called in Stopper Caleb Benavides to try to send it to extras. Benavides struck out the first two hitters before walking Hector Correa. DH Bai-luo Jiu stepped in the box to face Benavides. Jiu hits .235 against righties but is hitting .350 at home and .476 late in the game. Jiu took 2 outside to go up 2-0 in the count. He then jumped on that next pitch fouling it off past 3B. Jiu then got a 2-1 fastball that he sent to wall sending the speedy Correa home with the winning run.

SP Claudio Escobedo was pedestrian again going 5 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 4 hits while walking 3 and striking out 5. RPs Kunz Schuck and Reichel combined for 3 1/3 innings of scoreless ball. They each allowed 2 hits with Schuck striking out 2 and Reichel blowing away 5.

Correa was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI and a SB.

Final score Istanbul wins 6-5.

Game 3 was a tied after 5 innings at 4-4 and remained that way gain until the bottom of the 9th. Cairo RP Francisco Quintana was the victim this time. After inducing SS Jose Lopez to ground out, CF Correa came up to the plate. Correa had been a thorn in the side of the Chariot Archers this series. He took the first pitch high for ball one. He took the second pitch down the middle for a called strike one. He then fouled off the 1-1. Correa stepped out of the box and tightened his gloves and tugged on his pants leg. As stepped back into the box, spit some seeds out of the wad in his mouth and sent the 1-2 splitter from Quintana over the CF wall to send the home fans happy with the second walk off in as many nights.

SP Brendan Carr showed some poise working through some struggles going 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 9 hits, walking no one and striking out 1.

Correa was again 2 for 4 adding a double to his homer, scoring twice and driving in 2. For the series he was 5 for 12 with 2 doubles and a homer, 4 runs, 3 RBI, 2 BB and a SB.

Final score Istanbul wins 5-4.
