2040.06 - Playoff bound? Part 3

Another week has come and gone for the Istanbul Bosphorus and the UMEBA. Was Istanbul able to make up any ground on ether division or the wildcard? Will it all come down to the final sim of the season?

09/22/2040 - BAGHDAD KINGS AT ISTANBUL BOSPHORUS - W3-0
Istanbul pitcher Francis Wiles did his part in helping his team beat the Baghdad Kings, 3-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Istanbul is now 65-85.

Héctor Correa drove in one run for Istanbul. The 32-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Gurmu Icharia. It was his 50th RBI of the season.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Istanbul manager Pete Withers.

09/24/2040 - CAIRO CHARIOT ARCHERS BC AT ISTANBUL BOSPHORUS - L5-2
Chariot Archers BC Get Road Win, 5-2
The Cairo Chariot Archers BC defeated the Istanbul Bosphorus, 5-2, in Burt League action at Istanbul Grounds, with Cairo pitcher Roberto Gómez named player of the game. Cairo goes to 71-80. The win puts them 2 games up in their division.

Cairo grabbed control in the top of the seventh. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Aubrey Anderson delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 2-1 in favor of the Chariot Archers BC.

"I have a really good team behind me," Gómez said. "I trust them 100 percent."

09/25/2040 - CAIRO CHARIOT ARCHERS BC AT ISTANBUL BOSPHORUS - W4-2
Chariot Archers BC Lose to Bosphorus, 4-2
The Istanbul Bosphorus picked up a win at Istanbul Grounds, knocking off the Cairo Chariot Archers BC, 4-2. Starting pitcher Bernardino Bertoletti was an essential part of his team's success. The third-place Bosphorus raised their record to 66-86.

Bai-luo Jiu had a key at-bat with one out in the bottom of the fourth for Istanbul. With the bases loaded and the Bosphorus leading 3-2, he hit a sacrifice fly.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Bertoletti said after the game.

09/26/2040 - CAIRO CHARIOT ARCHERS BC AT ISTANBUL BOSPHORUS - W4-2
Bosphorus Solve Chariot Archers BC, 4-2
The Istanbul Bosphorus handed the Cairo Chariot Archers BC a loss at Istanbul Grounds. The final score was 4-2. Arthur Norris was named player of the game for Istanbul. In addition to his 1 single and 2 home runs, he scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Vladimir Reichel picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 9-11. The Bosphorus' win now puts them at 67-86.

Also making an impact was shortstop Shu-yaan Goei, who drilled a 2-run single in the bottom of the second inning for the Bosphorus. For the game, Goei went 1 for 3. He drove in 2 runs.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Istanbul manager Pete Withers.

09/27/2040 - MANAMA PEARLS AT ISTANBUL BOSPHORUS - L3-2
Pearls Come Back Late to Top Bosphorus
The Istanbul Bosphorus got a sterling performance from pitcher Francis Wiles, but the Pearls still prevailed, 3-2. Wiles was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Juan Pagán notched his 3rd save in 4 chances. Manama has now won 4 in a row.

Alejandro Guterríez made it 3-2 in favor of Manama when he delivered a solo home run. It came with no one out in the top of the eighth. The Pearls went on to win.

After the game, Manama manager Joe bin Sab=https://statspl.us/brewster ... 97.htmleer applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.

09/28/2040 - MANAMA PEARLS AT ISTANBUL BOSPHORUS - L9-3
Bosphorus Stumble, Lose to Pearls
Manama right fielder Laurent Fernandez made his presence felt in the 9-3 Pearls triumph over the Istanbul Bosphorus. Fernandez went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times. Manama has now won 5 in a row.

Alejandro Guterríez chipped in for Manama with a solo home run in the top of the third. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.

"The vibe's good," said Manama manager Joe bin Sabeer. "We've got to keep it going."


7 games remain in the season. Istanbul now sits 6 games back from the new division leader, Manama. The sit 5 games back from new wild card leader Cairo.

The clock is starting to run out Istanbul and this season. Tick, tock. Tick, tock.
