Another important week has come and gone for the Istanbul Bosphorus and the UMEBA. At the beginning of the week Istanbul was 6 games back from division lead and 2 games back from wildcard. Was Istanbul able to close the gap? Or are they starting to fall apart? Read below to find out.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH, 2040 - MUMBAI METRO STARS AT ISTANBUL BOSPHORUS - L15-3
The Mumbai Metro Stars topped the Istanbul Bosphorus by the score of 15-3, with the biggest share of the credit going to second baseman Michael McCarthy. McCarthy was 3-5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Metro Stars on the day. The Metro Stars move to 72-66 with the win, while the Bosphorus drop to 59-79.

Gerardo López contributed to the Mumbai win with a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth. For the game, the shortstop had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said López.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH, 2040 - BEIRUT CEDARS AT ISTANBUL BOSPHORUS - W5-2
The Istanbul Bosphorus picked up a win at Istanbul Grounds, knocking off the Beirut Cedars, 5-2. Starting pitcher Anastasio López played a key role in the triumph. López went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1. His record improves to 6-11. Bras 'Duck Hunter' Gesteiras notched his 28th save in 35 chances.

Tied up with the Cedars in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bosphorus got a boost from first baseman Patrick Lue. With a runner on 3rd, Lue saw a 1-2 slider from R.J. Hughes and hit a 2-run home run to break the stalemate and put Istanbul on top, 4-2.

"I felt good up there," said Lue. "I saw the ball well."

The third-place Bosphorus improved to 60-79.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2040 - BEIRUT CEDARS AT ISTANBUL BOSPHORUS - L3-2
Beirut Cedars starter Henning Veenman was in fine form against the Istanbul Bosphorus at Istanbul Grounds, leading his team to a 3-2 win. Veenman, the winner, moves to 10-9. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 2 walks. Corbin Torres earned his 28th save in 35 chances.

Chester Owens, who led the BANC in triples with 8 in 2038, helped out the Beirut cause in the top of the first inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the second baseman went 1-3 with a double.

"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Veenman. "Successful pitchers do it."

The Cedars bumped their record to 73-67 with this latest triumph.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH, 2040 - Cedars Clip Bosphorus in Tight Contest - L8-5
The Beirut Cedars beat the Istanbul Bosphorus, 8-5, at Istanbul Grounds. The Cedars got a fine performance from shortstop Carlos Torres, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win was Andrés Icaza's in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Bras Gesteiras took the loss for Istanbul. Corbin Torres converted his 29th save in 36 tries.

The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Torres delivered big-time for Beirut, stroking a dramatic 3-run home run off Bras Gesteiras. The game-changing hit put the Cedars on top, 8-5.

In comments to the Beirut Daily, Torres insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.

The Cedars bumped their record to 74-67 with this latest triumph.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH, 2040 - Impalers Prevail, 4-2, Over Istanbul
The Istanbul Bosphorus went down to defeat to Mateus Rabisca and his Bucharest teammates. The final score was 4-2 in favor of the Impalers. The Impalers bumped their record to 84-58 with this latest triumph.

Chris Klein contributed to the Bucharest win with a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.

"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Klein said.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2040 - Multi-HR Day for Lue as Bosphorus Overpower Impalers, 6-0
The Istanbul Bosphorus topped the Bucharest Impalers by the score of 6-0, with the largest share of the credit going to first baseman Patrick Lue. Lue was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Bosphorus. Today's win puts Istanbul at 61-82, while Bucharest falls to 84-59.

Lue had a key at-bat for Istanbul early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 27th home run of the season and gave Istanbul an early 2-0 lead.

In postgame comments to the Istanbul Chronicle, Lue said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."

Instanbul lost a game to division leading Cairo and currently sit 7 games behind. However they stayed pat for the wildcard with Manama and still sit 4 games behind with 19 games remaining. Even if they don't make the playoffs, the next half month should be exciting.

With 6 games left between Istanbul and Manama (3 in each of the next 2 sims), this could be a race decided in the last sim.
