2040.00 - Spring Training Edition

Post by drummerJ99 » Wed Sep 25, 2019 6:50 pm

It's the time of year again here in the UMEBA, the smell of fresh cut grass. The hopes from the fans of a winning season. Players and coaches who are ready to get back to work. It's time again for Spring Training. Everyone starts fresh.

Istanbul is hoping for a much better season then last years showing of 57-105, their worst showing in franchise history. "There is no where to go but up" said GM Jeffrey Everroad who took over the team midway through last season. "Our players and coaches know our fans deserve better. We've made some movement this off-season that we hope equals a much more competitive team on the field."

Istanbul started the offseason off on February 29th by signing RP John Jefferson to a 1 year contract. Jefferson played last seaosn in the BBA for the Montreal Blazers where he compiled a 1-1 record with 1 save and a 7.01 ERA while playing 17 games in relief.

Wednesday March 1st saw a trio of signings, first was RP Vladimir Reichel. Reichel played for two teams last seaosn both of them in the BBA. He started the season in Twin Cities going 3-2 with a 6.24 ERA over 29 games. Reichel was then claimed off wavers by Nashville where he finished out the season going 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA over 7 games.

The second of the signings was another relief pitcher Bernardino Bertoletti . Bertoletti was in AAA Gotham where he compiled a 4.00 ERA over 25 games. He went 16-4 over those 25 games.

The last signing of the day was 28 year old SS Shu-yaan Goei . Gieu started last season in AA Buffalo with a state line of .195/.283/.268/.551 over 30 games before being called up to AAA Salt Lake City. In AAA he went .179/.288/.268/.556 over his final 26 games.

The final 2 signings were both pitchers, first up on February 2nd was Yasutoki Fujihara. Fujihara compiled a 4.63 ERA over 23 games, with a 0-1 record. The final and maybe biggest for Istanbul was on SP/RP John Jefferson. Jefferson is expected to start the season as a starter, which should help the lackluster starting rotation. Jefferson played last season for Montreal of the BBA. Compiling a 1-1-1 record with a 7.02 ERA over 17 games.

The first week of spring training led to a 6-9 record.

Goei had a pretty good defensive track record in the minors and could probably swipe 40+ bags in the UMEBA. I hope he works out for you!
